Well, I just got my first bit of hands on experience with Windows Vista today. I hadn't really been avoiding it, just had no use.
Anyway, it seems to work fine, so far. I got the laptop home, removed all of the junk software and craplets, installed a few apps, secured the OS, and created a point in time backup without any problems. We'll see how it holds up over time though.

Welcome to Geekzone.  Good luck with your acquisition - what hardware are you running?

Ive used Vista a few times but only installed it on my own system the other night. So far its not too bad, turned off all the whiz bang stuff tho so it looks like XP.

Chews up HDD a tad more than I thought :)

Im running on AMD64 3200+ @ 2.2ghz, 1gb RAM, 7600GS video card (256mb)

It's actually my sister's computer. Core2duo at 1.83Ghz, 3 GB DDR2, 256MB dedicated Nvidea graphics.
Pretty good bang for the buck, I figure. It's and HP system. Theire pretty nice. My only complaint is that they are made
of the softest plastic known to man, so if you ever want to void your warranty by opening it up, you can chew up the case
pretty bad without trying too hard.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate on a Acer TravelMate 4002WLMi, 1.6 GHz, 1GB RAM, it runs fine but logging on and shutting down can take minute or two, haven't really had any problems except the UAC and Virtual Store which were interfering with my programs (trying to save program logs, etc. in my Program Files) but I quickly found out how to fix it, 1.5-2GB RAM would be nice though, speed up my computer :D.
