But MS have made the GUI look prettier at the expense of functionality.

They have a long history of doing that .
It people are allready talking about 3rd party addons to make things better , then MS have lost the plot , again .
Learn nothing from why Win8 & Vista were hated so much by punters .

Win11 does run really well on the rather old (unsupported) laptop I tried it on, faster than Win10 ran on that for some reason .

It makes you wonder if outfits like MS actually use their own products.

Unfortunately I think it's a matter of the development team wanting to stamp their mark on their version of the product and make changes for changes sake and to show they've achieved something.

Also the average user is probably less and less skilled at using a product like Word. I'm no typist and I used the dropdown functions with the exception of ALT C and ALT V. When you see someone who is a skilled typist who knows all the shortcuts, they are so much faster than the likes of myself who has to take their hand away from the keyboard to use a mouse to action a dropdown menu. The products are being dumbed down.

I just installed Windows 11 for the first time. It's a fresh install on a new machine.

One of the first things I did was open Windows Terminal and go to Settings. This apparently just tries to launch a .json file, as it pops up with the "which app do you want to use?" window instead of opening the settings window.

I can't believe I broke it within 3 minutes...

Have you installed Terminal or is it auto-installing? Wait until all apps are downloaded and updated.

I didn't install it manually; it was just in the Start menu by default. There is no obvious indication that anything's installing in the background.

Running Windows Update now...

Apparently those having gpu issues should manually update their graphics drivers. Apparently some people have had windows update downgrade their graphics drivers.

Just read somewhere... Ymmv

(In fact I was one of those.)

No problems here with NVIDIA-based desktop and laptop.
