For those still waiting to download the Microsoft 7 Beta, the download is working again:

32-bit download

64-bit download

The wait now is just for the licence serial to authenticate.

From http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/MainFeed.aspx:

"We have clearly heard that many of you want to check out the Windows 7 Beta and, as a result, we have decided remove the initial 2.5 million limit on the public beta for the next two weeks (thru January 24th). During that time you will have access to the beta even if the download number exceeds the 2.5 million unit limit."

Mine's quite radically different to this.

First impressions - not overly impressed actually.  My laptop has an NVidia 9600M GT video card which is being listed as a "Generic Non-PNP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adaptor."  Because of this, the max resolution I can set on my display is 1280x800, which looks fairly basic.  On my Vista installation I have (with the right display driver) it set at 1920x1080.

According to the NVidia website, they have supplied drivers to Microsoft which "will be automatically downloaded via Windows Update."  Wrong.

Not sure what's happening with the sound drivers either, so am going to have to have a good dig around here as well...

Installed fine on my machine except for my Linksys WMP300N PCI card (one download and manual update later all good).

But very spookily.... my Windows XP activation status was munted and I had to reactivate - no new tin has been added, all I did was install to an empty hard disk partition.... hmmm....

I don't know if the networking stack has been tuned or fiddled, but it positvely rockets with my TelstraClear connection. Vista was always sluggish by comparison...

I'm not sure if this is an accident or intentional by design (it'd make sense, since beta testers would often need to do multiple installations, virtual images, etc) but thought I'd pass this on in case it was of interest to someone: it seems people can get up to 4 keys per email address during the registration/download process.

Pressing F5 on the 'here's your Key' screen will cycle through 4 unique Keys for you (I assume they're unique - they were different to each other, anyway!).

There are 5 keys for 32bit and 5 for 64bit - pushing refresh will give you all 5, sometimes it will take more than 5 refreshes but you can get them all. I have the same 10 keys as 3 or 4 other people I know . . .

Well - being on dial-up speeds, it took me a while to get Windows 7, but I finally got here. Posting from Windows 7 right now.

The Aero theme works on my borderline computer just fine - 1GB RAM, 128MB video RAM and 2GHz processor...

It definitely runs better than the original Windows Vista Home Basic that the computer came with - it's smoother and the effects are more than worth the wait.

It runs all of the software I've installed on it to date - it's a pretty good beta to me.

I have it running on my Lenovo Ideapad S10 netbook. Everything bar the multi touch is working without having to install any drivers. Aero seems to be working - transperencies and window effects are happing. Only installed last night so havent had a desent play yet but it does boot fast and things are nice and snappy.

1.6Ghz Atom
2GB RAM
160GB HDD
intel 950 GMA graphics

Might try dual booting on my Mediaportal DVB-T box and see how it compares - its currently Vista Ultimate 64bit.
