yea the qoobox stuff is just from combofix. i suggest that you turn on and off the system restore. looks like the virus has got into it. if you have to do a system restore at any point it could reinfect your computer.

so turn system restore off. turn it back on again then do a new restore point.

any chance of posting a hi jack this log? just out of intreast sake

thanks

just notced that you did not click the remove button on malware bytes. but its just qoobox stuff so go to the  my computer double click c: find qoobox delte it and also delte it from the recycle bin

save you running malware bytes again just to delete it

thanks

Hu? did i do that?

you can use malwarebytes along side ca but no poing in having it start on start up unless you get the paid version.

dont forget spy bot as often they pick up differnt things.

just to add tot he last post this has entered your system restore. and you didnt use the fix button on malware bytes so make sure you do, do the turn off system restore trick

2nd have deleted qoobox from C: drive and recycle bin.
3rd have turned off system restore but do you recommend turning it on again?
4th I can not seem to load PC in safe mode so did not download Hi Jack This can you recommend what we can do?
5th did those trojans come from Combofix?
6th we do not have spybot
last one would the same steps and programs work on Vista?

3 yes turn it back on. but if you find more viruses make sure you turn it off then back on again after you remove them so if you do system restore it wont give you virues back. as i said avast is great cause it deltes these viruses out of system restore any way with the boot scan

4 you can run hi jack this in normal mode just do that. what happens when you try to get into safe mode? somtimes it can take around 5 minutes until it gets past the white writing. be patient

5 combofix somtimes puts files into qoobox so they can be restored if it made a mistak basicly its combofixes quaritne if you like. short answer its what combofix removed

6 download spy bot from that link i gave you at the start of the thread

7 prety much woudl work on vista. combofix is designed for xp when you run combofix in vista right click make sure you run as admin.

when you run hijack this turn on show hidden folders and uncheck the to boxes directly under them .

you do this by opening my computer going to tools , folder options view tab the two directly under are hide extentions and hide protected opetating system files make sure these do not have dots next to them. if you dont follow these steps it wont show all of the things it should. post away :) the link for hi jack this is earlyer in the thread

and there mabe somthing going very wrong in your computer if you carnt get to safe mode we will deal with that later

Your HJT logfile looks clean. Just delete this one (harmless) entry.

If your not running some kinda crazy proxy or server i would also remove these if it were my computer

Hello
Thanks for ur help. I am actually not at my partners house till Wednesday so I will fix all that then. His PC seems to run much better now and we have both taken CA off and put Avast! on. Which does seem to make it all a little faster (apart from the laptop which is too old to be fast LOL)

^ Age doesn't matter, it's how you maintain it that matters. I used a P3 till last year and if your definition of "fast" means general UI responsiveness/windows/program loading times, then my machine could beat quite a few P4 and Dual-Core machines in its time (not that they're physically slower, but its the poor way that they've been maintained that slows them down).

---

Btw, wrt the HJT log, I'd also remove these, from a performance/tweaking point of view:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe
O2 - BHO: Windows Live Sign-in Helper - {9030D464-4C02-4ABF-8ECC-5164760863C6} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WindowsLiveLogin.dll

- If you don't need to frequently mess around with advanced gfx card settings:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

Adobe Reader 9 starts fast enough already, no point in unnecessary slowing down your startup and wasting RAM/CPU cycles, unless the extra second of speed you get in launching Adobe Reader is mission-critical:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"

Personally, I prefer manually updating software, because a) saves some more CPU/RAM and b) In case you need to re-install or install on some other PC, it's handly having the installer around.

O23 - Service: Google Update Service (gupdate1c9f6eeaaf83594) (gupdate1c9f6eeaaf83594) - Google Inc. - C:\Program Files\Google\Update\GoogleUpdate.exe
O23 - Service: Google Software Updater (gusvc) - Google - C:\Program Files\Google\Common\Google Updater\GoogleUpdaterService.exe

No point in having this unless you run java applets frequently:

O23 - Service: Java Quick Starter (JavaQuickStarterService) - Sun Microsystems, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exe

Nero Media Indexing Service. *Highly* recommed disabling. Unless you have media files all over the place and need access to them instantly and don't know where you have what. Problem is, this can quickly get bloated taking large amounts of RAM. Slows down your PC when the indexing is taking place.

O23 - Service: NMIndexingService - Nero AG - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nero\Lib\NMIndexingService.ex

Tremendous time saver if you do a lot of video editing, for instance it indexes scenes in clips so when you're adding some clips to a project Cyberlink won't spend much time in scanning them. If you're not really into video editing, I recommend disabling this.

O23 - Service: Cyberlink RichVideo Service(CRVS) (RichVideo) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Shared Files\RichVideo.exe

If I were you, I would use the CA until the subscription ends. There is no advantage of avast over CA or vice versa. The key point for any antivirus is to keep it updated everyday. Next thing you could do is to setup your account to limited. That will give you some advantage to fend off malware.
