Just downloading windows 7 professional from MS partner site and i was wondering if anyone has attempted an upgrade? and if so how did it go? Reason i ask is my work machine has a LOT of programs installed that i just cant be naff'd reinstalling (or finding again to start with).

So has anyone done an upgrade? i know back in the day it wasnt a good idea, but was wondering if MS had got the whole upgrade process sorted, and considering how closely related vista and 7 is im hopefull.

Failing that im going to dual boot win7 and my old vista partition.

Yes, and it worked.

I got a new HP laptop, just a week before the RTM came on MSDN. So I decided to try an upgrad because of all the drivers and programs I would have to download/install.

Make sure you have an image backup of your PC (Vista Ultimate can do one for you or use Acronis) and go for it. There's a table that shows what upgrades can be made - Windows Vista Ultimate 64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 is ok, but 32 to 64 bit is not, and so on...

Well quite a few hours later i am on windows 7, upgrade went flawlessly.. All my programs just work, cant see any problems at all.. All in all i can recommend an upgrade. Of course it would be wise to do a fresh install, but for us slackers its a nice option Cool
