I am working on this computer for a friend of mine. I had to reinstall the operating system and restore the information from a backup. After i restore the information from the backup, I keep getting the same error messages over and over after each instilation.

Explorer.exe and logonui.exe stop working

It is driving me nuts because I can't seem to figure out where it's coming from. I tried to repair it from booting to the cd and using repair and it still comes up. I don't want to kill the hard drive from restarting the computer so many times. If any one has seen these error messages before can you please help.

1 why did you have to restore the backup was it a virus?

2 i think your back up may be infected http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/logonui.exe-17570.html

3 what anti virus are you putting on there b4 you do the back up restore of your info. i would recomend free version of avast.

4 the explorer.exe may be stop responding due to the viurs.

5 what operating system are you running sounds like xp but could you confirm

6 how are you factory renewing it via a recovery parition or a clean install off a xp disk etc?

to me this sounds like you have a virus in your back ups
thanks

also how did you do the back ups

dont try and do a factory renew again, if its malware, try boot scanning with avast. running malwarebytes and running combofix from bleeping computers.

this may get rid of it. also post a hijack this log here i will have a look shouldnt be to hard to spot as its a clean install from what you are saying

Also when you do a "restore" are you copying only data, or copying programs too? You should restore only data and reinstall programs from their original media - after installing an antivirus.
