I just recently bought a laptop with Vista Home Premium and want to connect to my XP Pro desktop. The desktop is not the one the router is connected to. On the virtual server page of the router i used the desktop I want to connect to IP Address and have it set to port 3389. I have IIS running and have the exception set it my windows firewall. I have the terminal services and remote desktop running from the local services in administrative tools. Originally I had a network connection to the desktop and was just mapping a network drive. Now after setting up for remote dekstop I managed to lose the network drive. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Update: I managed to get the computer remotely connected. I want to know if there is a way to keep the host computer from locking up so while I'm at work I can show my roommates where things are on my computer so they can actually see me moving the cursor for them. When I log in now the host computer goes to the lock screen. I am currently just using the remote desktop application with windows. I prefer to not have to switch clients and use anything like VNC if it's possible.

Using RDP , not possible - VNC is the most common solution, or else LogMeIn Free works well.

I decided to go with LogMeIn. Works AMAZINGLY!!! Thanks a bunch. The only question I have is is it available for WindowsXP Pro 32bit? I rarely need to control my laptop from my desktop. But I did seem to see it available for the OS I'm running on my desktop. I noticed under program files it installed for x64 and x86
