Hey, i currently just installed a bandwidth moniter to see how much i was using. Only to find that even when im not doing anything and all applications are closed it uses about uploads 5kb every 5 seconds. anyone know why this is happening?

There are plenty of things - virus checkers, windows update, arp traffic..

As sbiddle mentioned, lots of things - use Live Messenger/ICQ etc ? Any app that has a "check online for updates" option is usually a good one to start looking at :)
Probably also have some services running.... and also your PC will be talking to your router/modem regardless if youre online or not.
