My windows update doesnt seem to download anything at all, help!

And when I close down the PC, it always gets stuck on "Preparing To Configure" for ages before closing itself down.  Which is odd seeing as the computer itself had not actually downloaded any updates whatsoever!

Have a look at the event viewer under administrative tools. Once in the Event viewer have a look under Windows logs -> System and look for red x icons. See if any shine some light on what is going on.

I've done everything under the sun... and for the life of me couldn't figure out why anything inclusive of Security Essentials and Defender wasn't updating at all, that is until I changed my Comodo Firewall settings back from Training Mode to Safe Mode and it started working again. Go figure?!
