To my knowlege, no one has proposed making any changes to NZ Daylight Savings start/end dates to accomodate the RWC in 2011.

Hi All,

I sincerley hope not - there were some massive lessons by many last DST change, the impact on businesses and IT was massive. Microsoft to my knowledge hasn't had any heads up from govt/dia about this, I have asked a number of times as this was rumour when we won the rights for RWC 2011. If anyone has any information on this about a law change, please let me know so I can engage around this.

Nick - MSNZ.

Excellent - i was just a bit concerned as i was hearing a lot of hype on this issue and wanted confirmation... i hope there is not going to be a law change to accommodate tourist and game-time during RWC 2011. Please advice if an update is released on this issue.

thanks

Well in a large country to the west of us, there have been DST changes to accomodate sporting events in the past, the most notable being the Sydney Olympic Games, so I guess there is a precedent in this part of the world. However I think you can pretty well say if it was going to happen, you would have heard about it in the news media by now.
