I got an email from a client asking for product information.  I replied with an attached ZIP file (which we've done successfully hundreds of times).

It bounced back with the following: "554 Malformed Email Rejected".

I then originated a new email to the client and got the same response.

I've tried googling it but to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Some simple questoins. sorry just gives us a better idea on whats happening

1. are you able to email the file to your self or other person? if so it could be their service provider

2. dumb question but are you able to send just a normal email to them with out an attachment. you stated you have sent 100's of these emails but is it to this particular client.

3 are they with compass? they have had some huge problems over the last week.

4 is this file larger than the normal ones that you have been sending. perhaps your ISP not letting you send em cause its to big or maybe the clients email is regecting them its to big.

5 can you post the exact email txt of the message so we can read .

sorry this isnt an exact answer to the error message but maybe a step in finding out what is going on.

Hu? did i do that?

I would suggest that the email address is in someway malformed.

Can you obscure the FULL email address in such a way that we could review whether that's the cause without exposing who the client is?

Also - what is returning the error - your local system, your local email server (if applicable) - your ISP's email server or the final destination server?

Did it bounce back from your server or theirs? can you please post the NDR?

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

Thanks for the replies. I was away yesterday hence the slow response. I'll check into it and come back to you.

Your input is valuable.

Thanks again
