I found some spyware (as in ALLOT of spyware) on my computer and when I removed it some of my mcafee antivirus came off my system and now whenever I login to my computer it ALWAYS says that I need to reinstall it and I have to go ctrl alt and delete the software off temporarily until I login to my computer next so please help me :( also I am using the software that Xtra is using and I pay them 8 bucks a month for that service (antivirus)

Also I can't uninstall the software either

Are you able to re-install the McAfee software without uninstalling first?

Ahh... sounds like the classic virus trick of blocking the antivirus websites.... basically you have to reset your HOSTS file.

Restart in safe mode with networking (press F8 just after the BIOS, and the Windows XP logo on startup).
Once in safe mode find the file %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.

%SystemRoot% is normally C:\Windows\
Open it with notepad.

Delete evrything so it looks like this:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
# For example:
#          # source server
#              # x client host       localhost

Then still from safe mode, install antivirus, do a complete antivirus scan (in safe mode), and run a spyware check using AdAware, Spybot S&D, and MS Defender scan. Restart after all this into normal mode and all should be good.

If you still have problems, report back here. I once had to do a few extra steps to get rid of some extra-nasty spyware.

If all else fails you can always burn all your important data (documents, save-games, setting, etc.) and do a fresh reinstall of XP, doing a complete partition reformat first.
