Hi, The 500gb drive that has my OS on it is dying and i want to replace it with an SSD. I have a norton ghost image of the drive, can i write this image onto a 32 gb ssd without issue?

Yep, it will just write a partition of this size. You could then use something like Acronis to resize the partition to fill the drive, or to create another partition(s) to fill the remaining space

Obviously you can only do so if your 500GB is actually holding 32GB or less. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to store the contents of this image...

Great, thanks guys. I figured that if you go changing hardware around and remount images then you may run into issues but wasn't sure if that applied to the actual disc that you were mounting to. The image is 26GB so I'll probably go with a ~64GB SSD so I have some space free.

you could consider a reinstall, and install to a bootable .VHD file. That way you can simply copy the .VHD to another disk for backup or disaster recovery.
