I tried to send an oversized email, 25MB, with attachment of a very short video, and it says sending but never sends. Every time the PC is on is sucks up all the data trying to send it.

It cannot be cancelled, just says sending in progress.

I downloaded a program which works with the database to clear the email, but the example they give is to delete incoming email, not outgoing, and I tried to apply the same steps to outbox and it didn't work.

Now desperate to clear it out as its using ~10GB a day trying to send the email.

Will answer any clarification questions to help... but is a bit hard as we got burgled 2 days ago so I'm using 3 computers to do different jobs since peripherals stolen.

according to this post http://www.office-outlook.com/outlook-forum/index.php/m/173250/ set Outlook to Offline in File menu and you can delete it from outbox.

Amazingly, I just stumbled on the solution. But don't know what I did.

But that offline trick would not work regardless how long I waited, just kept saying I did not have permission to delete. Pity its sucked the internet dry in the process. That will cost a fortune no doubt.
