If you take a video or photo with the pad - does that not create a writeable directory you can dump stuff to?

This is a stab in the dark It's been a while..

ifuse? Not sure if it's still works with iOS 10+, though this tutorial says it's still possible to connect iphone as MTP device: https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/linux-iphone-6s-ios-11.html

iPads are, like all apple devices, super unfriendly to linux. From my memories of owning an iphone, apple considered all implementations of iOS syncing on linux as security vulnerabilities and disabled them with the next release. If your iPad is still running an old iOS, perhaps one of those itunes emulators may be usable. Otherwise, jailbreaking and installing a FTP or SMB server would work. Finally, you could run windows in a VM and pass the ipad usb device through to the vm.

The answer is really no. Apple iOS devices are not at all friendly to Linux.

You need iTunes in either a virtual machine (Windows), or native (Windows, MacOS) or use something like Plex to stream. Do a quick Google as there are plenty of tutorials.

Remember, Linux Mint = Ubuntu.
