this is the coolest toy I have ever seen!! Lego is up there, but this thing rocks! (forgive my opinonation, but if there are any 'Linux-is-hard-to-use' people still left... read on)

Heres a summary of the hardware:

220MHz ARM CPU (Texas Instruments OMAP 1710 SoC)

128MB built-in flash and RS-MMC port (up to 2GB?)

800x480 touch-screen

Bluetooth & WiFi

Software:

Linux kernel (2.6 tree)

GTK, GNOME, X-windows

Opera 8

Realplayer

It was only released in the USA at the start of the year but there are already a plethora 3rd party of applications available. Google are even developing apps for this one!

It's a nice device. I played briefly with one during the CES 2006: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=5705

First try talking to Nokia. If they ever respond to you, try arranging a review of this, or anything. I mean anything. They are in fact one of the most unresponsive companies around.

Forgot to say, even with contacts within Nokia (a Geekzone user) we couldn't manage to get anything from them...

There are plenty of people out there saying the product simply doesn't like to th the hype or potential capabislities.

The new firmware upgrade may be a step in the right direction though..

firmware? blasphemy! this thing runs Linux, it wont be long before it sports a VoIP client and other desktop-computer applications.

That's correct, it's not firmware, it's a full OS update, which is officialy known as Internet Tablet OS 2006 Edition: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=6297

has anyone in NZ managed to order one?

a friend of mine recieved a free one for his involvement in a project.

but, the one we ordered from Nokia, it took 5 months for us to discover why it was never delivered - aparently we used a non-american visa number, so we must have been fraudsters so they silently cancelled our order.

feh!
