DonkeyKong: Well we currently have 2 Laptops running of the Belkin router and usually ny N95 and xbox is always on and they also use wi-fi
What difference would it make?
Any network is only as fast as its weakest link.
Your cable modem is getting 10Mbps. Anything faster than that on your LAN is surplus bandwidth when talking about internet connections.
If one device on the LAN wishes to transfer data to another, then faster LAN speeds are desirable.
e.g. I have a 10/100 switch, and I have a fileserver. My PC gets internet at DSL speeds, but transfers to my fileserver at home at nearly 100Mbit.
If I upgraded my switch and my PC to Gbit Ethernet, then my max LAN speed will go up by a factor of 10x, but my internet speeds would still be limited by my DSL modem (ADSL 1, getting 2 - 4Mbps).
