Hi folks,

I see SP1 for Mac Office has been released (I found out through my RSS feeds - the "Microsoft Update" tool claimed that I was up to date)

180 MB download - installation was uneventful - and succeeded. No reboot required at the end.

So far I've noticed that Entourage feels quite snappy (syncing back to exchange through VF 3G back to the server hosted on the end of a satellite connection) - and the scroll wheel on the mouse works 100% of the time when in the preview pane.

Word will be the next application to start getting some usage (hopefully that will be a lot more stable - I've been avoiding using it as I could crash it within 10 minutes of using it previously...

[Update] Anecdotally Word seems to be a lot more stable ...

Any one else downloading and installing it?

Would love Access to be working on the Mac.

Havent got Office:Mac, as with Access etc, I dual boot (or use VMWare) anyway, so buying a second copy of office for the same machine seems a bit wasteful.

"new improved SP1"

Sorry - something can be new, or it can be an improved version of something existing, but cannot be both. Tongue out

Yea my Office 2008 said there weren't any updates as well so I also downloaded it from there site and installed it.
But I don't use Office 2008 much, I use iWork, but when I did use Word or PowerPoint I never had any issues with it. (apart from it not working as fast as the Office 2007 for windows does)

And I also use VMware for Access, works fine that way.

Odd about Microsoft Autoupdate ... oh well.

Interesting that you found speed issues with Office 2008 - I found that on my intel machines, the speed as improved quite considerably over 2004.  I can happily report that Entourage now feels like an application, speed wise.

As to the speed versus Office 2007, I can compare, but it seems to be as quick as Office 2003 (I loath the ribbon bar in 2007...)  To be fair, most of my work in 2003 is via remote desktop as well.  (On a 100MBit lan, I can't tell much difference)

As for access - I've not used it for many years now ... mostly web fronts is what I use.  I confess that when I was doing access stuff, I'd usually backend it with MySQL ...

It's a shame that MS have such a big excuse not to develop office on the mac as much as they could ... (By that I mean all the little scheduling features in outlook, push email from exchange server ... etc.)

Heh, i never knew about SP1 until i read it here. I installed it, doesnt seem to make much difference to my config. (Word, Powerpoint, Entourage and Excel). Entourage still takes ages to start, but im not too concerned. Thanks for pointing it out though! :)
