We've got a macbook pro 2013 and are using Chrome as a browser - it's been working fine (I do not know what version of Chrome sorry)

 

but the last few days some sites like Trade me, wises maps, Harvey Norman to name a few won't come up, but sites like facebook, youtube are fine... I've run a diagnostics check and it usually says my internet is working fine and to check i've typed in the web address correctly

 

I tried getting into trade me earlier using the safari browser and it wouldn't work - then got the ipad out and it worked fine, as did wises maps (have chrome on the ipad)

 

I tried geek zone last night on the macbook in chrome and that wouldn't work, but today it does work....

 

does anyone know why some sites work and some aren't working?

 

 

 

this has got me puzzled!

What do you get on screen as the error? Tried a different DNS? Can you ping the sites you're trying to visit?

we're with vodafone using wifi (fibre) - not sure what you mean by 'ping' sorry

 

chorus did the fibre install 18 months ago? has worked fine since

 

this is the error message I get - as mentioned trade me works fine on ipad and wifes iphone 6 but not on the macbook pro - and settings haven't changed on the macbook pro

 

This site can’t be reached

 

www.trademe.co.nz’s server IP address could not be found.

Call your ISP to do some fault finding, if you're not sure what ping etc is, they can talk you through it.

It looks like some DNS error. Are you using the router default configuration or have you changed DNS for any reason on either the router or computer?

I've not changed any settings on the MacBook pro - just using the settings that are already there...

 

never had a problem with any websites on the MacBook until late last week when trade me was playing up and now a few other websites have decided not to work on the macbook

 

as mentioned the ipad and wifes iPhone 6s both work fine on trade me, but the MacBook doesn't - only works 10% of the time... weird

Are you using IPv6? Try disabling that and see what happens.

Tried a malware scan with Malwarebytes? Tried with a different browser (e.g. Safari)?

 

Try testing DNS lookups using nslookup (instructions to open Terminal here).

 

Then do the following:

 

See if there's any difference between the results shown.

sorry I don't know what IPv6 is or what a DNS flush is

 

but I'll try the DNS lookups later tonight on the MacBook when I'm home

Also good to do the nslookup when you see an error. This will tell us what DNS is being used by your system and if the error only happens on that one or others (8.8.8.8 is Google's free service and 1.1.1.1 is Cloudflare's free service). This will help determine problems.

Go to system prefs -> network -> [whatever interface] -> advanced -> TCP/IP

 

Try setting configure IPv6 to local link only.
