I have a Apple G3 system that Ive been trying to flog off on TM but noones taking it.... so Im starting to think I should just keep it. But what can I do with it ?
Im a Windows user mainly so dont know what else I could throw onto the Mac (Had PPC version of Ubuntu installed for a little bit)... its currently running OSX, 333mhz PPC CPU, 512mb RAM and about 50gb of HDD.

So any neat/handy uses for an old Mac wanted

Some fun suggestions  Tongue out

1) Foot rest (could be a little cold for that)
2) Door stopper
3) Take out the hardware and use the casing as a mailbox
4) Throw it off a building and YouTube it - you are bound to get quite a few viewers

Just thought I would brighten up the thread!

1) Already got one
2) Too big
3) Interesting idea...but someone would probably steal it or my *&%&*%^(*% neighbours in the front would find some way to "accidentally" hit it with their car
4) Ill keep it in mind - anyone got access to the very top of Sky Tower ? Innocent

Actually, how about this?

Since Apple users are very united and are proud of their technology, you could hold your old Mac to ransom on the internet.  Give it a kick, a dent with a hammer and soon you will find yourself hundreds if not thousands of Apple fans throwing money at you asking you to stop the abuse  Laughing

Ive got a webcam..... do live broadcasts of it in odd situations until it finally dies hehe....

I was thinking of a more practical use but this one sounds fun.......

Can you add it to your home network? If its one of the iMacs / eMacs with Harmon Kardon speakers it would make an awesome stereo streaming your iTunes library?

Yeah i could add it to the network, but its a B&W G3, so only 1 built in speaker on the front :)
And wife would kill me if another computer turned up in the lounge ;)

Well rather than waste it, why not give it to someone ?  Find a little old relative/friend/neighbour who wants to find out about the internet and set it up for them, it'll give them a nice easy intro to the internet without to many worries about them being able to accidently break it.

Tried that too.... noone wants it.
Even tried charity - they want P4 1.8 or better.  (HAH... my machine is only just over that requirement) Surprised

Id probably play with it more myself if I had a USB KVM..saves me swapping monitors around.

Maybe thats the trick....   "Donate me a USB KVM or the Mac gets it" Cool

The Mac has been saved.... Ive decided to use it as my main machine. My Windows box is connected to the big TV and wife isnt keen on letting me move it away cause it means she cant watch her tv shows etc.... so onto the Mac I go.

Expect lots of questions, because Ive never used a Mac "properly" before Tongue out

Is it a G3 iMac?

I came by one of these last year sometime.  I ended up upgrading it to max ram and max HDD, installed Tiger and an older iLife. Also installed some open office stuff and some open source apps.  Ended up giving it to my 3 year old nephew.  It's been great for him, he loves it!  Also got a few of the kids educational apps off the Apple store, like Dr Seuss's ABC etc.  It's a great first machine for a kid that's for sure.

Yep should go well with some extra RAM.  Don't bother with Leopard, though Tiger should run smoothly.
