The problem I always had with Ram Disk is it didn't do anything the OS's own file caching didn't do. 

 

 

You can't store files in or on a file cache, so I inferred that when MadEngineer was referring to ramdisk he was referring to the type that appears as its own volume.

This considers them very different components, the only overlap being that in later versions of the OS (that image looks like System 8 or 9) they were in the same control panel.
