I have a Windows Server at home, and I am moving my backup from the desktop (250GB) to this server (1TB). My wife works on an iMac and we will keep her backup on this too...

I currently have her iMac setup with Retrospect to backup to a FTP server on my desktop, but I rather have a shared folder being seen as a drive on her iMac.

What/how do I configure on the Mac OS X to have it accesing this shared folder?

I think, you need to enable Windows Share in MacOS X and have an account which the Mac user is using, so the user can access the Windows Share.

Otherwise, add MacOS X to the Windows Domain, which i think you can find from Apple's KB. It was said, it is pretty easy to setup MacOS X to communicate/be part of Windows Domain... personally i have not configure a Mac to Windows but that's what i was told by this Mac administrator from my previous workplace.

Are you just trying to connect to a windows file share?

You should be able to connect to it by browsing into the 'Network' tab on the finder. Alternatively, on the finders 'Go' menu, select connect to server.
Then type smb://hostname or smb://ipaddress (replace hostname or ip address to suit).

It will then ask for a username or password for the file sharing... and then give you the option of connecting to the share.

Just a note that running the windows file sharing service (I'm referring to the one under services in the sharing perference panel) on the Mac is for incoming connections (ie. browsing the machines shares remotely from other computer).

You don't need it running if you are connecting to another machine from your mac.

Nice! Just tried it, and all works fine... It can see the "Workgroup" (where two desktops live) and the server domain.

Great stuff, thanks!
