It is a standard. If you don't use HTTP in front of a URL then it's local to the server. If you use the editor a popup dialog will ask if you really want that without HTTP on front.

Don't blame Geekzone for you not putting htt in front of a URL.

It was one of those days topped off by an injury via an inanimate object, which then got me thinking as to why oh why nigh on everything is packaged in such as way as to prevent people using their purchase ?
I hate to think how much grief people with disabilities in their hands get on with opening them!

What's wrong with cardboard packaging ?

Actually it's because Quick Reply mauls links where you do include the <a href=""> part. Can that be fixed or noted above the quick reply box so it's known?

Last I checked they used PET or PP for the blister packs so they were recyclable.

Certainly they are more recyclable than half the crap that people put into their recycle bins which are contaminated at the factory.

Anyway, the reason for them is so that small items are large enough to be hard to shoplift and hard enough to open in store that you would attract attention. Often things sold mailorder have the same packaging but without the welds so that they will just pop open for you.

Microsoft used to be terrible for this with their Xbox controllers.

This packaging makes me unfeasibly angry, it should not be necessary to have to hunt for a pair of large industrial scissors because using a pocket knife results in incredibly sharp plastic remnants and self-injury due to the force required to cut this remarkably hard plastic.

It seems to be less common, but still plenty of it out there, some Logitech headsets we bought a while ago suffered the same problem.
