richms: Everything is repacked in a larger box overseas. Nz is the only country where cheapass retailers slap a courier ticket onto the manufacturers box and trust it to the couriers.

that's how my amazon uk parcel arrived - original amazon box with youshop applied shipping labels.

also took a week longer than it should have due to my item sitting in their uk warehouse for a week and the fact that youshop only shipped out of the uk three times a week (they don't tell you that in the faq !).

at least i got my vat back...

Not true.

I have a BBQ I ordered recently from Amazon and it arrived in the manufacturer's box with a courier ticket slapped on it.

That new coupon doesn't work

My Amazon order arrived so I went to pay for it and it told me the coupon could not be used with my credit card. Guessing as the coupon was found on Kiwi Banks website that it can only be used with Kiwi Bank cards (not ANZ/National Bank)

Now begins the slow countdown for my new computer to get here

Plus – save on international postage costs with YouShop.

Buying from a UK or USA website? If they don’t ship to New Zealand, check out New Zealand Post’s YouShop service. YouShop gives you a delivery address on the ground in the UK and USA - you just enter that address at the retailer’s checkout. Once YouShop receives your parcel, they’ll send it on to you.

Sign up now, use the promo code kiwibank15 before 15 December 2013 and you’ll get a 15% discount on the international postage to New Zealand for the first parcel you send using YouShop USA or YouShop UK.

Pain to find. Maybe kiwibank Visa only?

My bad YouShop experience continues. After deciding to organize for my package to be returned to Amazon using a post paid RMA slip provided by them, I'm still at a loss as to whether this has actually happened yet. All I know is that Amazon have not received it.

Here is the last conversation I had with YouShop, which took place 24 hours ago. I'm still yet to hear anything back. At this rate, I'm fully expecting Amazon to charge me again for the returned product, which they will do if it still isn't received by the 13th of December.

******: Hi, my name is ******. How may I help you?
David Clegg: I have a parcel at your YouShop warehouse which I arranged to have returned to the merchant on the 15th of November. The merchant provided me with a postage paid RMA label, which I have uploaded to your website. This request has still not been actioned. Can you please find out what is going on?
******: we need to advise our YouShop team that this is a postage paid label - can you please advise which parcel number it is please?
David Clegg: The parcel ID is ************ and my YouShop ID is *********
******: ok, found it, one moment
David Clegg: I arranged this with another rep at the time. Why wouldn't they have advised the YouShop team about it?
******: did they give you a case inquiry number?
David Clegg: No they didn't
******: ************ - this is your case number - YouShop advised that they handed this back to UPS 19/11/13
David Clegg: So this has been actioned? Your website still states its sitting in your warehouse
******: I cannot confirm that it has been, even though they have said they have done it - I will need to chase it up with them - can you please keep your inquiry number - it is your reference number - we can bring all the case notes up quickly, rather than going through all details again.
******: I will send a query off now and we will come back to you
David Clegg: How long will this take? The merchant has already given me a refund, but I am concerned they may charge me again if this takes too long
******: we will contact you on their reply straight away
David Clegg: How long do they take to reply?
******: well, I haven't sent it yet - but not long
David Clegg: Ok, thank you
******: will be in touch

****** has disconnected.

OK, apparently Amazon have received it. I found a tracking number on the RMA slip that they provided me and used the UPS website to confirm it has been delivered to them and signed by a receiver at their end.

The YouShop site is still telling me that my parcel is there, and that I owe them $118. Guess I'll just ignore that :-)

I did mention to simply ignore the parcels in your YouShop especially the request for payment as well when you return the items.
All good, looks like it went without a hitch.

I knew to ignore the payment, but was concerned when I saw no action with regards to the parcel actually being returned. And with the Amazon site still saying it wasn't received, you can understand why I'd be a bit worried that nothing had been actioned yet.

Thankfully it occurred to me that I ma be able to help myself with the information on the UPS RMA slip, but there may be many other YouShop customers who may not think to do that. I really do hope that NZ Post can use my experience to help refine their service (I've been giving them feedback via other channels).

Their systems are immature, I guess not everything can be shown online yet.

I received my package from Amazon today. It is interesting to note the additional packaging that resulted in the costs leaping from a quote of $135 to an actual $240.

There was also a layer of brown packing paper sitting on top of the box, and filling in the approximately 1-2cm gap around the sides.

Did you measure this box (size/weight)? How does it compare to what you used for the quote? I.e. was the quote wrong or the measurements wrong? If it's the measurements then none of this has been YouShop's fault really...

It has already been acknowledged that the measurements used (the shipping measurements from the manufacturers website) were not the same as the actual measurements of the Amazon packed box (which I did not have the measurements for). So technically YouShop were doing exactly what they said on the tin. But as the above picture illustrates, the difference in size and weight are relatively minimal, so its pretty hard to comprehend that the quote would be out by over $100.

My issues with YouShop are the following:-

1) Their quote system can be a bit of a lottery, especially if you cannot get the actual shipping dimensions. Not exactly sure how they resolve this one. Perhaps they need to be clearer in stating that volumetric postage rates can kick in and vastly increase the cost, even if there is a relatively minimal difference in package size. Had I known that the costs could balloon by so much, I certainly would've put more effort into trying to ascertain the actual dimensions being used by Amazon.

2) They were unwilling to even consider a discount on this figure. Now this one is totally on them. If they had offered me a 15% discount, I probably still would've shipped with them, even though this would've meant paying $70 more than expected. Instead they get none of my money, and yet still had to deal with, and store, my package.

3) Their website does not give an accurate report of the status of packages they are handling or fees required to be paid. Once again, this is something they can address.

4) Their communication can do with a bit of work. Some of the tone and lack of answers in some of my dealings with them was disappointing.

Really what I am wondering is what measurements did you use and what are the measurements of the box (either the Amazon box or the manufacturer's box inside). They calculate their pricing to a formula so there's no trick. I don't believe that the small difference in size that is apparent in your photo would make $100+ difference either, but something funny has happened.

Unfortunately that is inconclusive. I have measured the received outer box, and that has dimensions smaller (23cm x 45cm x 60cm) than the dimensions stated for the package they claim to have received (27cm x 54cm x 79cm).

This means that they either mis-measured (although they claim to have double-checked, so that seems unlikely to me), or my original order for the same product was placed in an even larger box by Amazon the first time they shipped it. If the latter happens, that makes the quote system even more of a lottery. If the merchant is going to vary the box used for shipping every time, it seems unlikely that they will be willing or able to provide the actual shipping dimensions.
