MurrayM:
sep11guy: i contacted the website, and they promptly replied :

Thank you for contacting us.

Upon shipment, our company pays for the GST and Import/customs charges. Therefore when goods are delivered to our customers, they shall not pay for any extra fees.

The prices advertised on the website is all you will need to pay.

Please feel free to call our sales hotline to place an order.

What do you think of the above? is this possible ??

Very unusual for a website to do this.  Means a lot of extra work for them!

No idea about this shop, but its not uncommon for retailers to collect GST &/or duty at the time of sale. Amazon and several other clothing retailers give you the option to pay taxes upfront, or deal with it yourself if it gets stopped by customs.

So.. has anyone bought anything from Value Basket (valuebasket dot co dot nz)???

I see a bit of information has been added in the forum below.

pricespy dot co dot nz/forum/index.php?showtopic=2047

Some of their phones for sale on their site are competitively priced, but I'm still cautious about the 'details' of shipping from China to NZ.

I generally Shop in NZ, but I'm looking at the XPERIA ion HSPA and it's not available in New Zealand.

No Import Tax/Duty to Pay:
Any import tax/duty charged will
be billed directly us.Laughing

Here we go: a handy Customs-supplied Duty Estimator.

Also we have now started running some ads for valuebasket.co.nz (aff link) so if you want (for a limited time), here's a $8 discount coupon for orders over $280 (and they do free NZ shipping for all orders): VBAU8280.

Seeing that ValueBasket seems to now have a New Zealand presence and seeing we have a ValueBasket affiliate link (similar to what we have with Amazon), I asked them to clarify the GST situation. I got this information:

"Regarding GST we’ve recently implemented a change to the way in which we handle and apply GST in NZ, to try and come more in line with other sites and the expectations of the NZ audience.

Basically we manage GST charges by supplying some products from our NZ Entity (ValueBasket.com (NZ) Ltd) and some from our HK Entity (ValueBasket.com Limited, Hong Kong). Each product listing shows where a product will be fulfilled from. By and large, we include GST in the list price of the products fulfilled by our NZ Entity, but regardless, any GST that is due is clearly itemized when the customer checks out. If GST is not itemized, there is none due. In every case, there will be no additional customs charges once the customer has checked out and confirmed their order.

In terms of warranty, we include a 36 month warranty period on the majority of the products we sell – the product listing clearly shows what period of warranty applies.

In terms of customer service obviously our response times vary depending on the time of year but I do know that our response times are generally within 24 hours these days. I don’t have specific figures for NZ but if someone is having a particular issue, then ask Geekzone to forward the details to us and we’ll push from this side."

I am working with them to get a discount code we can use as well...

I recently bought a mobile through this website and would not recommend them. Although they have a NZ Contact number they never answer it! They do reply emails quite promptly but never address the issue you raise in your email. Their delivery time is longer than 7-10 days! Fell for the cheap prices and paying the price for it!

They have a good range of products by the looks, but most of the prices I've looked at are higher than retail locally...
