DarthKermit:
Rikkitic: Do you have names yet or do you want to see how their characters develop first? Don't wait too long. I got caught out and my cats ended up with names like Eeny, Meeny, Miney and Moe.

Arlo for the grey boy (after Arlo Guthrie the folk singer) and probably Shadow for the black girl.

Would Arlo be a better name for a 'Seeing Eye' dog?  It took me a very long time to make sense of those particular lyrics from Alison's Restaurant, but I believe they use the same term in Oz for Guide Dogs.  It was not a term we knew in the UK though.

My partner chose the name Arlo as she likes the song City of New Orleans.  I can't see her changing her mind LOL.

Just discovered this Forum Thread so thought I would add our pets past and present.

Our first pets were General & Alfie. They have since departed this world. Alfie (All Loving Feline) lost an argument with a bumper bar aged 4, General lived till 18 and here is her memorial we sent to family and friends.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of General our Feline partner and friend.

She was euthanised this day Saturday 21st May 2005 at 1215 in the presence of us both.

General had lived a long and joyous, if not spoilt life, of 18 years & 3 months. She had out lived her sister Alfie by 14 years who had lost a fight against a bumper bar whilst we lived in Melbourne.

We took the decision to end this joyous life when her years suddenly caught up with her. Over the past year we knew that her kidneys were going slowly into End-Stage-Renal-Failure . Whilst we were away in Bali they took a sudden turn for the worst and the Vet at our local Cattery had to give her subcutaneous fluids. Her blood and urine pathology had taken a sudden nose dive. Also just prior to going on our holidays she had developed an acute and rapidly progressive degenerative spinal disorder in her hind region. This rapidly progressed this week as she experienced full body spasms in increasing severity as well as increasing systemic weakness to the stage where she was unable to lay down (without help or for long) to sleep. She was unable to climb, jump or even clean and scratch herself properly. Plus she was developing failures through out the rest of her body.

We shall greatly miss this lovely and loving Feline partner and friend of ours. We shall miss the click click of her nails on the lino. We shall miss the quiet meows and the loving rubs against our shins. We shall miss the gentle paws on our face and the loving licks she gave us both. But most of all we shall just miss her for her self, a loyal and generous friend.

General in her hay-day

General just prior to her passing

As we can not bear to be without cat companions five weeks later we picked up two cats (sisters) from a rescue centre. They are moggies but with 90% Turkish Van in them. They are called Skipper and Captain (left to right). They are now nine. Skipper is now rather large at 10.5kg whilst Captain stays her thin self. Captain is a particularly talkative cat and likes lots of hugs and rubs. Skipper is a bit of a loner, except at meal times then she becomes demanding.

Enjoy your pets

Here's my cat, Known as "Puss"

And yep, she is a tough as she looks, one cat you do not muck around with or ever attempt to scratch her belly, but does follow me around the back yard like a dog though.

Thanks for the latest contributions.

My Blackie's weight had dropped to only 3.6 kg just before he passed.

Well we've finally got our two new kittens home this morning. They're both busy exploring their new home. Both a bit timid as to be expected, but I'm sure they'll become accustomed to their new home very soon. laughing

It's so nice to have some new life in the house again. Uncle Blackie would have been proud.

Here's a couple of pics of the new kittens.

This is Arlo, who decided to climb on top of the vacuum cleaner:

I won't be uploading every pic we take or I'll probably crash geekzone.

We've had them here for four days now and they're perfectly at home with us.

These are lovely, happy kittens. They look wonderful. I'm sure they will have great lives filled with love and kindness. I just returned from 6 days away and my cats were all on the bed this morning to welcome me back. They follow me from room to room, afraid I will disappear again. They rub up to me and jump in my lap as soon as I sit down. They make it absolutely clear that they missed me, and are glad I am back. Cats are wonderful creatures. I really do love them.

Thanks. They are lovely and happy. I'm glad that they have each other for company. At this stage, they're more interested interacting  with each other than us humans. That's cool, they're like little children enjoying their childhood games together.

Your five are lucky to have you.

I remember back in 2002, I went away to the South Island for two full weeks. Blackie was sooo happy to see me when I returned. That was the longest time we ever were apart, when he was still alive.

Nice picture.  It is usually better shooting live subjects at their eye level.

Here's Bruce (white with a black cape) and Alfred (grey stripes).  They're brothers, as you can tell by their shared inability to control their limbs:

These kittens are not our pets, they're our current bunch of fosters from Cat Rescue Christchurch. Part of their socialisation process is regular sessions with Helga, our resident Kitten Whisperer!

The early days... very food driven, they were demanding food at the tops of their lungs here:

A week later, much friendlier and very confident:

Enter Helga the Bernese Mountain Dog. She's amazingly patient and tolerant.

Here's a kitten about to pounce on her gently wagging tail
