I've been talking to Amazon about their shipping. This answer may interest you...

Unfortunately, there is no way to request a specific shipper.
We currently use IMEX, DPGM / DHL Global Mail, I-Parcel, Aramex, MSI, and DPGM_TNT for international Standard or Expedited shipments. For Priority international shipments we use UPS International or DHL International Priority.


They are aware of issues with NZ deliveries and are working with NZ Post on this.

Would it be fair to say if I want the final delivery in NZ to be with CourierPost it's best to use YouShop? I prefer CourierPost as they have a key to a secure area, and so they can deliver over xmas while I'm out of town.

I haven't had problems with Amazon parcels. Our latest purchase came through i-parcel and was delivered here in one week - the estimate was three to four!

What I really want to know is what happens if I'm on holiday for two weeks. Do they leave them outside, do they leave a card (which can blow away), etc? That's why youshop is handy, guaranteed CourierPost delivery.

The i-parcel was delivered by CourierPost so the same as other deliveries apply...

Remember to put a hold on your mail with NZ Post for the time you are away!

A hold on the mail only works for letters. NZ Post will not hold parcels and will not accept an authorisation for redirection. If, in the courier drivers opinion, there is a safe place to leave a parcel they are (according to NZ Post) supposed to leave it. In my case, NZ Post confirmed that my parcels will be left at my front door (which is hardly safe). 

They suggested I get someone to check the property each day to collect the parcels as they are delivered.

I don't believe there's any real issue with i-Parcel per se. When I talked to Amazon today they said they had issues with delays once the parcel had been handed over to NZ Post. 

I paid a premium for my Amazon orders to get the 5-10 day delivery. They are now way past that and still with NZ Post.

NZ Post said their 1-3 day service goal did not include either the day of arrival, the days before the first scan (when, apparently, the parcels could be with them, with customs or still with the inbound carrier) or the day of the first scan. That kinda makes sense of the fact that overseas tracking can show a parcel being here for a week before NZ Post tracking shows up. What doesn't make sense is that I was given NZ tracking numbers last week yet NZ Post says they are not allocated until after receipt by the international parcels centre, when the parcels are entered into the system for delivery. 

The parcels that i-Parcel sent to Massachusetts instead of Manawatu (due to them being addressed as MA NZ) could be anywhere. They were due to arrive today by Amazon Global Expedited Delivery, which isn't tracked (but can be, if you ask i-Parcel nicely). 

I have to say, Amazon has been fantastically good to deal with over these parcel issues. They even called NZ Post to get the status.
