I'm working right through the holiday break (sigh) and the council have decided to shut down the Kapiti train line for repairs during the next 2 weeks.

I can't be bothered dealing with bus replacements so I've decided i'll just drive in for the few days that I'll be coming in.

My question is, where is the best/cheapest place to park in Wellington? I work on Cable St so the closer the better but seeing as I walk from the train station everyday it's not a big deal if I'm required to do a bit of walking.

Hi, about the cheapest around is the stadium, $9 for 12hours, would add 5min to your walk.

Cheers
Cyril

While the stadium is cheap it is also the most targetted carpark in Wellington for theft.

A number of carparks drop their prices for December through to around Feb. I used to park at the Wilson outdoor lot on Vivian for $9 a day for the same period last year.

Tournament on Lombard street is another good location though I don't know if their rates change.

Te Papa used to do a good early bird rate as well and it looks like they have a midweek special going on at the moment Te Papa

$8.50 a day for 5 days sounds promising. I'll be coming in at least 4 days so that is quite ideal.

Don't really need a long term solution. Just something over the next 2 weeks while the train line is closed down.

Some of them are per week. One for $35.

Park on Oriental Parade, just past Grafton Road. It's free from that point on and won't take you more than 15 minutes to walk to Cable Street, unless you're slowing down to admire the sights on the way ;-)

What's coupon parking prices like now? There are often coupon parks above the terrace in the residential areas.

Just a heads up. Te Papa parking specials (mentioned previously) aren't running from the 27th Dec - 31st Jan. Best be careful however as you can still purchase them but not use them.

I made the mistake and am now having to chase them up for a refund and or a chargeback.

On a good note, the tournament parking across the road from Te Papa has an early bird special of $9 for 12 hours. I imagine this would be full quite early on a normal day, but days like today it is very quiet.
