Seriously IRD - how many times can your online systems break?

if you log into the IRD to do your IR stuff on line you will find it directing you to the Inland Revenue  mobile web app. Unfortunately that leads you to no-where as you cant log in.

I've tested the site using Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer so it isnt browser based - its another total shambles.

Why am I peeved about this?

Logging in last month to do my GST I found their system broken so couldnt get GST payments done on time - their fault, my penalty.

Logging in last month to get PAYE done on line - that was broken (we have been trying to get it done online since Nov last year when we applied for it but the IRD still cant get that right. We didnt have a paper form so we were running late trying to get it sorted from out of town. ) Again our liability - their fault .

IR Secure mail - loses emails (three in the last two months).

Now we can even log into the IRD to do anything. I didn't put aside my afternoon , drive across town to the office to do tax work so that I can be told - sorry yet again.

Come on IRD - if you web site is this cruddy - goodness knows what your tax calc stuff is like.

I've lost 7 hours this month trying to get stuff done on their site. Please - get it right.

Last year I made a payment on VISA via their WestPac payment portal. I got to the step before the final confirmation of payment and then decided to check a detail on the previous step, then went on to confirm payment. Found that it had paid them twice and that the first time it hadn't waited for me to hit the confirm button - it just presented me with the final details awaiting confirmation and processed a payment any way!

I emailed IRD about this and never ever heard back from them. Dodgy (insert swear word here)'s!!!

Westpac must have used the same web developers!

To the OP... if there is a problem with the site, call them and request an extension on time to file - we have done this in the past and avoided the penalty fees.

As per the previous post, they are quite thankful that you call them to explain your issues and wont impose penaltys.

Have you contacted their IT support desk? Have you checked out their website feedback page? (you will see answers and solutions to most issues).

Seems like you have had continuing issues over a period of time. You state you have been given penaltys but dont state what type of communication you have had with them over this matter. Sorry if Im sounding direct, Im not trying to be 'hard ars'....just trying to help !

EDIT: Are you using the right links  i.e.  type in  www.ird.govt.nz  and then navigate from there as opposed to using a saved bookmark that may be now out of date.

Also please state what are you using, desktop, tablet?
Works fine on Safari for me.

I do reccomend you call their IT support desk as it seems you need to configure your browser properly.

Its simple stuff they get wrong that fustrates me - browser issues not a problem. We have had issues from multiple physical locations, multiple browsers, multiple computers.

As an example - started a company in Oct / Nov, requested gst and paye registration.  finally got gst registration but paye rego taken until this month to sort out as it is still not on IR-file. despite us requesting it in Nov as part of our setup, again on secure email etc. THeir systems arent passing info correctly. We just got a papaer form for PAYE - and we have been requesting ir file paye since nov. We couldnt file in Dec - as they hadnt got us reguistered as the request went missing but it was part of the same process as requesting GST - all across the web. WE were liable for 250 late filing and penalties for dec. Thankfully no payments made so we just changed out mind and startted paying paye since jan so no penaly. However it is another 90 minutes of my life gone for no good purpose sorting it out via the phone.

We have seen secure email dissapear or not make it though.
WE have seen forms not make it through.
WE did use the link on the front page, not book marks. Their system was DOWN!
Chrome, IE FF, all failed. IE is set to run on a virtual machine with its pants pulled down, no security, no filewall, no virus checker - we use it to figure out issues onweb sites / caching etc. It failed too.

Photo proff provided above :) That was from the ir file login link on ird.govt.nz.

and the result of the conversation with the IT helpdesk?  i.e. what do the IRD have to say about your technical issues?

Im guessing you dont have an accountant to sort out your issues?

Yes we did a few years ago. Ended up in more trouble with an accountant who did not do their job correctly. got sick of being charged late fees as they hadnt put in returns and also they didnt laqc the business on set up etc. We are now doing it ourself and having less problems. however the basics can be very very frustrating.

Just par for the course and good for my patience. Sorry didnt mean to make this a gripe session re the IRD. Just frustrated to find we couldnt do stuff again as someithing not working ... again!!
