I've used and administrated SMF before, for the most-part it's not too bad. This was a few years back now.

Kyanar: Let's just say stay far away from Wordpress. Least intuitive software ever. I used to work for a company that developed this stuff, so I have an inherent bias and will not include their product in my answer to negate that.

Wordpress isnt forum software anyway, altho there are plugins to use its database for a forum.

Ive played with a lot of forum software over the years and none have really taken my fancy in the last few years, theyve all changed so much from what they started as and ended up being too bloated.

I did setup phpBB last year for work, got it going but admin of it was hugely different from what I had been to use from it in earlier versions. If I had the time and sat down with it long enough, Id probably be happy enough....  just have to keep on top of the updates for it. (in saying that, I havent updated the work one for ages....dunno if its even used)

No, but you can always fork discourse.
