The latest Bond film Skyfall is out on DVD and Bluray.

Just an update on pricing etc (not sure if this is the place to do it)

Best price seems to be The Warehouse (as usual) being that they have 20% off all blurays at the moment until the 2nd of April. So that brings the price down to $32. This is the normal edition and contains no digital copy or DVD (and I haven't seen any versions that have anything but the bluray).

JB Hi-Fi has the bluray in a steelbook version for $34.95, which is the version I bought.
They also threw in FREE a CD single of the title song by Adele (I suppose until stocks last).

A bit of a grizzle ... I got the Steelbook (Blu-ray + DVD + iTunes) from Amazon a month ago for $30 delivered. I don't mind paying a little more to buy locally, but paying more *and* waiting an extra month?

Yes, not sure why we have to wait longer in NZ. Usually these things are timed for release at pretty much the same time to try and prevent piracy and downloading.

Maybe Skyfall is a special case? I do remember about a month ago that it could be pre-ordered from JB-Hi-Fi and they had some note on the wall poster saying the release had been delayed until the 27th of March and it was beyond their control. Not sure why.

I see that the local release of The Hobbit has been delayed too. What is going on here? It's an NZ movie!

Ooo, was this an instore deal or did you buy it online? We dont have a local JB Hi-Fi but I did order the steelbook from them. I didn't see any mention of the single but didn't really read in depth. Hoping it will arrive soon :)

I see on amazon the blu ray + digital copy is $24.95 USD. Most non box sets are not region locked anyway. But another reason why in your next travels you should bring back a different region player back :)

JB was selling a region-switchable Toshiba a little while back :)

Edit: And still is. You need to run this on it.

It wasn't advertised anywhere, not even in-store.
I took the bluray to the counter and she just scanned in the CD and slipped it in. Didn't say a word about it, either.

I think they're probably trying to get rid of some of the singles on the QT :)

According to the price sticker, the single was worth $4.95.
It has the Skyfall song, and an instrumental version as well.

I saw that movie on bluray last night and the transfer/final bluray product is stunning. An excellent movie, especially from a cinematography/visual imagery point of view.

Yes it is!
I read some online reviews saying the same thing. Apparently it was shot totally in digital.

Without being a dck, I guess it's worth mentioning that this is not an NZ movie at all.  It was shot / made here in NZ, but the final product is owned by Americans who can decide when to release it in various markets.  The state of DVD/Bluray releases here in NZ is quite interesting.  ~In that I've seriously purchased movies from the UK, watched and then sold them (ahem I mean passed them on to others) for less money than it costs to buy them locally, (ie made a profit) and also long before they've been available locally in some cases?!

I got a NTSC PS3 and a PAL PS3 for multiple playback up until a certain group/someone decided to leak the console keys due to the incompetence of developers who hard code random numbers

Ah right, interesting! Cheers for the details. I'm intrigued to see if mine will arrive like that, although I'll be pretty happy either way. Will keep you posted!

I got a region-switchable (DVD and Blu-Ray) Veon from the Warehouse for $50 on special when they re-opened the Lyall Bay shop. I have seen it for $89 on sale at other times. Pretty cheap & basic player, certainly worse quality/build than many brand name jobs, but useful for out of zone disks. Be careful if buying it - not all Veon models are switchable.

There is a thread elsewhere on GZ on this. I can dig out the model number if there is interest.
