Anyone ever tried to replace a lost / stolen drivers licence? This is more difficult than replacing / renewing a NZ passport

Why do they need a Bank Statement showing my address when my car is registered to my home address where they send the reminder rego letters every 12 months?

Then they say bring in a phone bill! Like Hello I have not seen a phone bill in approx 13 years

Really? I went in with my passport, an internet bill and ~$30 and came out with a temporary licence until the card came in the mail about a week later.

What did you take in as proof of address?

Did you need proof of address to get a passport?

I did bank mini statement from the ATM
No because with passport you send the form away.

I took in a valid passport to the AA but the NZTA want proof of address I just don't get it?

Why can't I just give them my car rego?

So me fronting up to a counter in the AA with a passport is more risk than you posting away forms that no person will ever deal with you face to face?

Seems reasonable enough to me.  Not sure what the big deal is personally?

"Recent" evidence of address is sometimes required to be produced.  Just because your car is registered to an address doesn't mean you actually live there.  I would think you would be equally annoyed if it was sent to the wrong/old address and someone used your ID fraudulently.  Small inconvenience to make sure you get this important document surely?

I just do not get it why they need something on paper showing my address?

If I got bank statements / credit card statements / bills in the post showing my address I would not have a issue with it, The issue is I don't so now I need to visit ASB in Glenfield mall and get a little bit of paper with my address showing on it,

It's easier to steal something from a letter box than my Passport that is kept in the house

The address the drivers licence is getting sent to is the same address when I got my licence at 15 back in 1988

If you login to fastnet then go to documents centre, look for you visa / account statements in PDF. Print out and presto!

I no longer have anything that is mailed to me that can prove my address. Businesses email stuff to you and banks are pushing you not be sent paper statements.

John,

You are quite right in that proving who one is shouldn't require 15 different documents, let alone one that bears no relevance to the matter being transacted.

The whole idea of the Governments' Logon Service was supposed to address this with varying degrees of security levels for different actiivites, e.g. library card vs. passport. You go to the AA counter, hand over your application, they call it up on their computers/workstations, you enter your User Name and Passord/s, and you are declared "proven identity".

However, currently I think the AA are covering their backsides in case they mail the new licence to the wrong place, but yeah that's illogical too because you could be moving about the country and want your new licence to be sent to a hotel anywhere !

One of my beefs is why applications keep asking for 'date of birth' .... what's that got to do with a dog licence or resident parking permit??

R.

Because people change address from time to time.

Some research could have saved you some aggravation:

You lot are missing the point - John has mentioned he can go to the bank to get a statement, that's fine - his issue is, why is one required when one isn't required for a passport, which surely has a higher "authority" than your driver's licence.

Because when you apply for or renew your passport you have a section on the application where another person vouches for your identity, with resultant penalties for false applications, whereas when applying for or renewing your licence it's up to you alone to confirm your identity. Hence the requirment to confirm ones address.
