This wasn't because anyone was religious. It was because the people who perpetrated the attacks are unbalanced and possibly mentally ill. It just happens they may also be religious AS WELL. It's not reasonable to say this attack happened due to religion.

If they weren't religious they would have fixated on something else and done the same thing.

Agreed. Calling this "religious" is as quick as calling this "terrorism"... And note my previous comments.

Where did I mention "terrorism" in my original post ?  The first person to mention the T word was you.

I'm pissy about it all because the cretins involved were doing it all in the name of "Allah the great and powerful Oz", so yes in my books this makes it an attack by stupid religious people.

Then you have misunderstood what has happened and your current assumptions are incorrect.

I didn't say YOU mentioned terrorism. But if you go to BBC and other mainstream media outlets, the authorities in charge were quick to call this an "act of terror" or "terror attacks".

You mentioned "religious" and I am comparing the speed to say this is a religious manifestation as quick as authorities saying it was a terrorist attack. That's all.

Without knowing everything it could be easily both, or none.

Many criminals will say their motives are for God, King or country but in reality they are for self.

Cloud fairy. Must remember that one!

Anyway I would say its 100% religion based.
A bunch of my cloud fairy follower mates always explain to me they are not religious. Religion they claim is the politics and such that surrounds belief in god/s. They say they believe in god but are not religious.

The religion = dogma perspective, I presume. Synonymous with fundamentalism.

Fecked up religious people strike again :-(

I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that I am pretty sure that more people have probably been killed in the name of Athesm than religion.

Besides the OP is putting all religious people into the same basket. I think the op is a bit of a basket case ...

Atheism is merely a category one falls into if he/she lacks any religious beliefs. It's a lack of belief; it doesn't imply any kind of belief in anything.

Also 'atheism' isn't a proper noun and doesn't need to be capitalised.

Ummmm ... so I'M a basket case by feeling a little angry that people go around hacking other people to death while claiming their cloud fairy friend is all great and powerful ?

Let me think do I still have imaginary friends ? no!  I grew up and have the ability to question the things around me and make my own decisions, I'm not so pathetically weak willed that I need to suck up to invisible entities and their "chosen" representatives.

In my opinion religion is a hideous construct that promotes intolerance, and none of the religions out there do anything other than serve their own at the expense of all others, most are big pyramid schemes that suck in the feeble minded and desperate and twist them.

Thats your opinion. But at the end of the day atheism is based on your belief that there is no God. In fact it can probably be classed as a faith too. Which is what? A religion upon itself.

Personally I don't have enough faith to be an atheist. :-p

lol.  I guess my 'belief' that there is no Santa, unicorns, or fairies should also be classed as a religion.

Of course not. Equally, atheism is also not a religion.

If atheism is a religion, then 'not collecting stamps' is a hobby.

Gosh! I saw the comment from the moderator :Quote "I think people should focus the discussion on motives and reasoning.

Any more talk about the victims and people will get banned."

My opinion is that it will be best to refrain from making comments on Geekzone due to over the top moderation.

Why do you say I'm an atheist ?

Judging from your post.
Spoken like a true atheist

Sounds more like an agnostic to me.

He says as he fails to refrain from commenting.

Back on topic you can't blame a belief system for the actions of crazy people. People will use their religion as a justification for many heinous acts but that doesn't mean the belief system or religion as a whole is responsible. Every group has its crazies but they shouldn't be held up as representative of the whole group.

People can be religious and crazy but that doesn't mean they are crazy because of the religion.
