Did mine yesterday. Didn't notice if it asked about 2014. Was due a refund (:-(, just means I didn't earn enough, again), just credited it to next years. I don't mind the online process for the IR3 actually, certainly easier to have it all there under your login. Wish the IR4 and IR10 could be similar.

The IR10 is just a rough allocation so that the IRD can get broad information about business in NZ, I don't even know if they look at it against each individual company (eh, perhaps they do a quick sanity check "Willie's Widgets had an awefully large expense there for a Widget manufacturer /presses severe audit button/") , hardly any of my stuff falls into the categories anyway.

TinyTim: I got a reminder by post to do it online. (I usually do mine online.)

Interesting. I did mine online for the first time last year (I'd had trouble in previous years) but no reminder.

If you complete the IR10 as part of the IR3 it should look/feel very similar. The IR4 has an older style though so completing the IR10 with that will probably look a bit like that.

Did you find completing the IR10 easier this year?

I have filled my IR3 online for the last two years. I'd actually forgotten about it for this year, so lucky you guys reminded me. I don't think I received any notification from IRD to remind me.

I do it with the IR4, so no, same as last year.

My agitation is their bloody useless phone system. I need an Earnings cert so dial 0800. No real person on the end of the line but voice recognition asks for IRD number etc. Not good at understanding my accent so it takes a few goes. Then it leads me down a path of 9 or so other questions or hints on other things. Anyway, 10 minutes later I work my way through the maze and the phone tells me "sorry all our people  are busy" and the frikin thing hangs up on me!

So I give it 15 minutes and go through the same process and no surprise end up with the same result.

So how about a real person answering  the phone and putting me straight through to the area who processes Earnings Certs, or at least some queue – without telling me I’m a valued customer  with 9 calls ahead of me and an expected with of 39 minutes.

The good news - the horribly antiquated systems of the IRD are to be upgraded...

The bad news - it will take 10 years to implement!!!

One strange thing Ive noticed is that they round up (or down) the total amount Ive earned thru the year, but they dont round up or down the income tax payable...

So this year my employer says I earned $105 and IRD says I earned $100... both say I paid $40 tax so the end result is a bigger refund for me than it should be (by all of $2!!) but still its a bit strange...

* OBVIOUSLY the dollar figures quoted above are not real! - apart from the $2 :)

Update: I just received a reminder letter today, dated "April 2013". Sigh.

Calculated mine on paper so i don't have to keep saving "draft" while i'm working it all out. IR10 is a pain but better than paying an accountant. Think I better submit it all now before I run out of time!
