Budget & specific uses? Prefer to stick to the 7", or happy to go to 10.1"? Prefer Android over Windows?

HP Slate 7 is a great buy for ~$200, the Galaxy Tab 3 line are awesome (7",8", or 10.1"), the new Nexus 7 2013 isn't far off and looks fantastic. Asus Transformer Infinity is great, too (though it's replacement isn't far away I believe), and their VivoTab is awesome if you want Windows as your OS.

I like my Nexus 7, and the new model which is out here soon looks even better.

The new Samsung 8" also impressed when I had a play with it.

But, as Inphinity asks, what is your budget?

Drop the cash and get a Nexus 7 (2013 model) - I bought mine from the Google Play store and have been so impressed with it, cost me $330NZ to import for the 32gb model. In my opinion it's the best 7" tablet money can buy and is also one of the cheapest.

Not knowing your budget,I recently bought a Windows 8 Pro Surface tablet with the hard keyboard. This was to replace an Android one that I didn't like. So far it has been great. Good screen, nice and clear. Has an HDMI output so I can plug it into the tv and watch Utube etc on the big screen. Also a USB port.tHad to buy an adaptor cable for that at 60 bucks that I felt quite expensive though. Does not have 3G but only use it on WiFi. Took it to USA last month and kept in touch with business etc and it performed well for that purpose. With the touch screen sometimes you can "lose" what you are looking at and that can be a bit frustrating at times, but all up I find it a really good tablet and it now gets more use than my laptop. Battery life of about two hours of net surfing could be a bit longer but I can love with that. Reason I bought it was so that the system matches my Windows 8 phone. At my age I find it less confusing to use if related gear works the same! The still camera seems to take good quality photos and the video is surprisingly good as well if you don't mind looking a bit of a twit waving it around at arm's length!

How did you go about this? I'd be very keen to do something similar.

I take it you went around this and used YouShop or something?

Yeah, Amazon now ships the Nexus 7 to NZ. I grabbed one from them a week ago, cost about NZ$330 all up including shipping. Now just waiting for it to get here.
