That deal isn't so great (cost +10%).

I bet you'd find with most weekend sales, or 'catalogue' products, the selling price will actually be less than cost+10%.

It is probably OK for Whiteware (there isn't the huge competition here in Whiteware as there is in AU) but for TVs ETC, cost plus 10 (or even 7.5) son't be costing them a huge amount, and in some cases will be higher than their ticket prices.

Do people actually believe this "cost +" hype?

I walked into our local NL yesterday and saw these on "special":
http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/communications/mobile-cellular-phones-cellphones/mobile-broadband/huawei-e5220hotspotxt-e5220-mobile-hotspot-xt/prod122981.html

$99 "reduced" to $79. I cheekily offered $59.
Salesperson checks the computer. "Sorry but our cost is $88 - you can look at the screen".
I start to walk away. Salesperson - "OK I will let you have one at that price".

I am now the proud owner of a Telecom Huawei E5220 Mobile Hotspot complete with 2GB data for just $59.

They lost $29 - TUI

Thanks for stating the obvious.

Obviously comparing NZ with anywhere else in the world is a stupid idea because it's perfect, right?
