Seems like it's gonna be another semi lonely nye again for me this year :)

I'm single &My so-called "friends" have other plans already (either with fam or other friends).

I'm not antisocial in anyways. I drink and stuff, but not to a point of drunkenness (had 5 glass of beers at last reddit meetup..no effect).

So just curious , how are you spending yours ?

Hopefully by this time next year i'll have new real friends or a girl I can spend it with.

Outside NZ would be nice, the last 10 years (i'm 22) I've spent NYE in NZ , so somewhere in the US (east or west coast) would be really nice.

Heck it would be a nice experience altogether. I'm actually thinking of trying a working-holiday, but i have a full-time software-dev job in Auck at the moment that I don't wanna mess up , since if i do a working-holiday it probably won't be in the same field..hmm.

Been invited to 4 different partys which all have different times so will start furthest from home and keep getting closer to home where the plan is to sit on the deck with wife and son drink some bubbly and watch the Dunedin Fireworks not sure the weather will cooperate. Fairly sure i have spent a few quiet ones am 52 now, cant all have been busy

Looks like you have started your new years wish list
Have a great 2014 and good luck for new years.

Thank you. That sounds awesome, watching the fireworks with family.

I don't know why, since I'm only 22, but for the past few NYE , approaching the day, I've always felt empty/down slightly.

It's not my character at all.

Any day of the year I'm pretty much happy, loving life and knowing things will get better and can pretty much pick myself up quickly if i'm down (which isn't often at all).

Probably have something to do with the fact that I haven't been out of NZ since we migrated here in '02.

Went to HS here, uni here, and been working for almost 2 years now.

Love getting inputs from you tho, as from your age (no offence, actually a compliment) , i'm sure you've seen lots of things in life, the good, the bad, the ugly, etc. And have had at least 40 NYE's that you can remember.

Have a great 2014 too, wish you and your fam the best.

At home with my wife.

Before I was married - at home having dinner with friends or my parents home. I'm 46 and have never been out on NYE yet. A bigger waste of time and money is hard to imagine than getting drunk just because it is January 1st tomorrow!

We typically spend it at home like any other night. This year we got invited to a family's party and I bet it will be fun, I like them a lot. But I'm sick so can't go. Hubby can go if he wants to. I don't know if he is going to or not.

At a beach house that a few of my friends have rented. We'll probably have a barbeque, a few drinks and just sit around chatting. That's enough excitement for me.

Light dinner and a few drinks with family and family friends.

Not going into town - haven't done that for years. Never found bar crawling with the NYE crowds to be much fun, even in my early 20s.

Ha y'all are homebodies.

This is silly but..these replies has lifted my spirits up abit.

I'm not a party animal by any means, but i'm up for light drinks at a downtown outdoor party where you're close to the fireworks and there's a concert going on too. That's my general "setting" of my ideal NYE.

Unfortunately things like that doesn't really happen in downtown Auck.

A few years ago we were in Christchurch (pre quake) and there was this nice concert with some nice music and people were enjoying their time (it wasn't a normal rowdy concert)  , and when it came time to countdown , there were fireworks. So nice. Still love that city. Damn mother nature.

Here's an idea!  Why don't all you "homebodies" on this thread gather together tomorrow for a "light, but fun evening" of some sort? That would be nice wouldn't it? That's if you wanted to..

I will probably have a family meal together and tha'll be it. Oh and we may get to see the fireworks if it's a clear night - even though we live in West Auckland we have a line of sight to the Sky Tower!

We have the ghastly La De Da thing nearby but it's far enough away that it won't disturb us and the gates will be closed to keep the ne'er-do-wells at bay if they go on a drunken rampage. If they climb over that, 70kgs of barking Hungarian Vizslas chasing them back out should work!

The Plod are usually around in force over the 3 days it goes on to put a stop to the typical stupidity fairly swiftly
