Geektastic: We have the ghastly La De Da thing nearby but it's far enough away that it won't disturb us and the gates will be closed to keep the ne'er-do-wells at bay if they go on a drunken rampage. If they climb over that, 70kgs of barking Hungarian Vizslas chasing them back out should work!

The Plod are usually around in force over the 3 days it goes on to put a stop to the typical stupidity fairly swiftly

Doesn't look like la de da is running this year?

Six of us (three couples, late 50's - early 60's) on my brother's/sister-in-law's launch in the upper reaches of Bon Accord Harbour on Kawau Island, dinner and a few drinks with much hilarity.

Been here a few days - Telecom data reception on the iPad is marginal.

Got dinner and drinks with the (grown up) kids on Waiheke. Should be about 20 people, bit of fun.

I can see me being in bed come 12 though.

Flying over to LA tonight, get in during the afternoon and meeting some friends for a small gathering. Followed by a 5-6hr drive across to PHX on the 1st.

coolcat21:

I don't know why, since I'm only 22, but for the past few NYE , approaching the day, I've always felt empty/down slightly.  It's not my character at all.  Any day of the year I'm pretty much happy, loving life and knowing things will get better and can pretty much pick myself up quickly if i'm down (which isn't often at all).

I can understand how you feel OP, its fairly normal. Try not to worry about what other people are doing, it's just the same as any other day. Just do what is important to you, whether that is celebrating, self reflection, goal setting or nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm only a few years older than you, but I can remember putting an awful lot of pressure on myself to have to go away and have some big party this time of year. If you are going to be alone (nothing wrong with that!) for the evening and following days, do yourself a favour and get off social media for the next week so you can avoid the perfectly crafted "look at me I'm having a great time!" stuff and just focus on yourself.

Your friends live in the US ? Lucky you :) Are you staying over at their place ?

Yea I'm not gonna put pressure to myself. But I know it's because i've spent the past 10 or so nye in NZ , need to get out for the next one. Hopefully like you, I can fly over to the US. I do have some friends there, but not that close.

Flying air nz ?

Lost interest in going out on NYE about 15 yrs ago, still can't see the point in it. 1999 was the only one I really took note of and I worked through that one lol.

Sitting at home with the mrs having some quiet ones and watching a movie. Probably be asleep by midnight.

Got invited to go into town but it's going to be 37° today with a low of 28° overnight, so the fireworks might not even be on. I hate people anyway so staying at home is always good.

I have never 'gone out' on NYE except for a couple of occasions when I went to a family friendly public event, but I always make sure I do something with a few friends. I don't really celebrate Christmas any more, but NYE is important to me because if you don't take the opportunity to reflect on the year that's been and goals for the year to come then you can end up with your life passing you by.

Haha.. I'm 42 and spent my 20's running amok. I'm over it and people. And living in a city with 1.5million people and 3 main roads makes it annoying to get about.
