Russian Doll on Netflix.

Don't look it up, don't read the blurbs. Don't read reviews. They will surely have spoilers.

Well worth the watch I think.

Agree.  Only 8 short episodes so really easy to blast through in a couple of nights.  Really enjoyed the twists and turns, a modern twist on an old premise.  Acting was top notch also. I hope they do another season.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

The Bletchley Circle series one. Very enjoyable murder mystery set in the 50's being investigated by some of the ladies that worked breaking codes at Bletchley Park during WW2.

Bodyguard (S01E01 on Netflix) - 7/10

Decided to start watching this, as it seems to have had some good reviews. Richard Madden (Robb Stark from Game of Thrones) plays David Budd, an ex-military Police Sergeant working in special protection for senior politicians.  The series opens with him having to deal with a suicide bomber on a train when he's taking his kids home, before he's assigned to protect the Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes, from Spooks/MI-5).  It's a pretty good drama, and has the advantage of only being about 6 or 8 episodes (so not a lifetime commitment).  I've taken to watching TV with my finger on the volume button to deal with loud explosions (for fear of waking the kids), and spent the whole hour waiting for a big explosion but it never came (spoiler, there's a big explosion in episode 2).  British TV often does this well, creating tension without there having to be a car chase or explosion every 5 mintes.  Madden does pretty good as the bodyguard, though I think Keeley Hawes lays it on a bit thick as the ambitious politician.  Some of her scenes in Parliament look over-animated, like she's trying to do an impression of someone (not sure who).

Game of Thrones (Season 1, Blu Ray) - 9/10

With season 8 on the horizon, I've been rewatching GoT.  It's so damn good!  There's a lot of fun seeing all the little clues and hints left way back at the start.  It's also good to remind myself how early some things happened.  For instance, the three-eyed raven stuff with Bran happened pretty much from episode 3 (even though the full explanation of what that means doesn't really come through for several more seasons.  Seeing the development of characters such as Jaime Lannister, Arya, Sansa, Jon, and Danaerys just shows how far the story has come in seven years.  It's also interesting seeing how the manipulations of characters like Varys and Illyrio were set up right from the beginning.  Knowing what we know now means you can almost see the fingerprints of these master manipulators on events.

We have been doing the same thing, really enjoying watching it all again for a third time (we have always watched the previous season before the next season)
Watching it all back to back has been great. The characters are so good and like you say their development has been amazing.

eracode: ‘Dirty John’ on NF - with Connie Britton, Eric Bana and Julia Garner (Ozark and Maniac). Excellent IMO.

There's a whole podcast series of the same name on the true events that I assume the Netflix series is based on; it came out last year (I think) and is really worth listening to - https://wondery.com/shows/dirty-john/

Yep - NF series is based on the same story.

I watched 4, 2, 1, 1 with 2 more episodes to go. I found that episodes 7 & 8 just a tad boring. Yes we all know that all the main characters have emotional hang-ups but these two episodes spend to much time on them. 😞

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

+1

Thoroughly enjoyed this and can be watched in 1-2 sittings being 4 hours long in total. TV seems to be the preferred medium now over movies as you're not restricted to 2 to 2.5 hours running time. They could have condensed this into say 3 hours or so (the <mild spoiler> rabbi scene didn't really progress the plot) but that's still too long to play at the cinema.

Plus I wouldn't go to the movies to watch something like this (usually get dragged to see someone in tights smashing things)

I sort of hope they don't do a second season - there's lots of speculation about what the whole thing means and a second season will dispel a lot of those

Last two episodes of Orville. Some of the best episodes of it's 2 season run. I can't wait for the next episode.

Star Trek Discovery - excellent season so far.

Penny Dreadful Season 3 8/10

The last season of this excellent series has most of the story lines tied off in a reasonably satisfying way. Interesting that the last episode came up with The End. so it was intended.

Luther Season 5. 7/10

The finale wasn't bad, but the story lines through the 4 episodes extremely improbable and therefore hard to take seriously. Overall this series has been gently sliding downhill since season 1. Let's hope this is the last.
