Watched Never Have I Ever on Netflix last night. Pretty good - watched with my daughter as it goes deep into teenage topics.

'Kura. Local mini episode light comedy with a little bit of drama. 'Kura = Papakura. Excellent, everything. Maybe an hour in total. TVNZ / On Demand.

watched the first two episodes of the luminaries on linear tv !

tried watching ondemand but the fuzzy picture and poor sound put me off.

haven't read the book but this adaptation by caton is ok.

characters are a bit cutout and the storylines go off in several directions but it's entertaining and looks good.

:)

meanwhile... a basket of lemons to whoever thought a tv series based on the film snowpiercer was a good idea.

the film worked because it was packaged within two hours, spread out over several episodes on tv and it's almost as bad as westworld.

zzzzzz

I'm up to the last episode of Band of Brothers. It's definitely a 'boy' program , being about WWII and featuring tough characters who cuss constantly.

The story and characters are portrayed with a bit of depth to them which prevents the whole thing becoming rah rah enlistment porn for the US military, which a lot of war programs suffer from.

I didn't dig the 3 minutes opening credits of each episode though. TG for FF.

I though I was late to this party but I just checked and I see it came out in 2001.....I knew I would get round to watching it eventually.

Thanks for the tip, I hadn't heard of that one.

It's on Neon so I don't need to scrounge up DVDs, which is handy.

been watching One Lane Bridge on TVNZ Ondemand.
Really well shot show and started out pretty good in the first episode but it was all downhill from there.
Such a garbage story full of cliches and dated NZ stereotypes . . . and then we get to the final episode where it seems they just decided they had better finish things off as quick as possible.

You want to watch rah rah enlistment porn for the US military, you should try Strategic Air Command, from 1955. The opening march is called 'The Air Force Takes Command', co-written by a Major.

Its still worth watching for the B-36s and B-47s and Jimmy Stewart.

"It is a matter of public record that the Pentagon has had an entertainment liaison office since 1948 " from this article which talks about the hundreds of films and TV programs which have received US DoD support.

If you want to play with our aircraft carrier then we want you to re-write the script. Just a few small changes here and there.....
