EDIT: My beef is with this objection to subtitles. I grew up in Australia with SBS being the source of odd ball foreign television on FTA; anime, martial arts films and other cult oddities not in English. You just did the subtitles because you had no choice. I find it sincerely frustrating when I give a good suggestion when somebody says they want something to watch and give me the 'nah I don't do subtitles'.

These days you have to have subtitles even for English content. The audio mixing is terrible, and sometimes you can barely hear the dialogue.

We just subtitle by default. The wife is hard of hearing with dialogue so it's always on. I'm used to it with foreign content and watching YT and other content with our firstborn and having the volume down low.

Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder - 8.5/10 (BBC iPlayer)

Another great episode, but completely different from The Star Beast. Not wanting to give any spoilers, but comparisons are being made to "Midnight" from season 4 of "Nu Who" which I would say is a pretty good comparison. The story grips and captivates, and provides both laughs and poignancy.

Just one more special to go with the 14th Doctor and Donna. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do in the third episode - it's been so much fun, but also slightly bittersweet because we know it's just for a limited time (aren't they all?), but I'm also excited to see what the new Doctor and companion will bring to the show.

I'm getting through "Inhumans" on Disney, slowly. There is just enough story to keep going and the action is ok. The costumes and sets are low key like moon rock intentionally I think.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Wakanda series it could be the exact opposite.

I’m totally fine with subtitles, having watched non-English films since I was young. My problem is that, if they are present, I just can’t train myself out of reading them! This is fine if they’re needed due to being in a different language or poor audio, but some of the stuff my kids watch has them hardcoded, or my eldest simply has them turned on all the time, and I find it takes away unnecessarily from the content. (I’ve got good hearing and good sound systems, so don’t typically have an issue with dialogue.)

Looks like they stepping up their game in the Dr Who Studio's.

The next series commences on Christmas Day.

Long ago on Christmas Eve, a baby was abandoned in the snow. Today, Ruby Sunday meets the Doctor, stolen babies, goblins and perhaps the secret of her birth.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I'm currently up to date on For All Mankind on Apple TV+ and Monarch Legacy of Monsters.

Both are high budget affairs and are actually both very good.

Still ripping through Santa Clarita Diet. Still enjoying it. THat's on Netflix for anyone that's looking for it.

The Morning Show fizzled out while we were at the other house, as we didn't have the Apple TV and on a Chromecast, it was out of sync (dialogue) and was unwatchable. Will have to get back into that now we are back home again.

Just binged Tulsa King. I enjoyed it but something is off about it.

On the one hand, Sly does a great job. On the other - something is seriously wrong with the tone. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Just finished Boat Story on BBC. Not brilliant but an enjoyable dramedy.

Also really enjoying S3 of Slow Horses on ATV+. Now that is brilliant.

Doctor Who: The Giggle - 8/10 (BBC iPlayer)

A fitting way to end David Tennant's return to the role as the 14th Doctor. The story revolves around the return of a villain from the First Doctor's tenure - the Toymaker. For as much as I am a Dr Who fan, I wasn't familiar with that character. But Neil Patrick Harris does a good turn, mixing in whimsy and thinly-veiled malevolence. There is also a good mix of comedic turns in the story, with NPH lip-syncing to a classic 90s girl-band song. I also enjoyed the explanation at the outset of the story for why the world had gone mad - once again, staying topical and using the genre of sci-fi to reflect back on the state of the world.

We also see the debut of Ncuti Gawa as the 15th Doctor. I won't spoil anything (with or without spoiler tags), but I think he did really well to stamp his mark on the character very early on. The new series seems to be in good hands, and I'm quite excited to see the new stories, beginning with the Christmas Day special being his first, full story.

Finally finished DAЯK.

Perfection. Absolutely fantastic but also bad because it now ruins everything of this genre going forward (and back?). Acting, casting, plot, dialogue, everything; make with so much thought and consideration.

EDIT: And it ends too! Love shows that I can walk away from without wondering "what if?" or left with a cliff hanger.
