I've started watching 'The Studio' on AppleTV+.

Really beautiful to look at, very good cast, some hilarious scenes and just really enjoyable. Watching 4th episode tonight.

"Black Doves" on Netflix. Started as a John Le Carre-style psychological thriller, transitioned in to a Guy Ritchie-like fast paced action, then moved onto a Tarantino-like grand finale. Does a  decent job but never gets close to the masters it's trying to emulate.

"The residence" on Netflix. A great whodunnit farce. Takes swipes at both sides of the political spectrum, Al Franken is great as a fictional self; and Uzo Aduba is brilliant. Great to see Bronson Pinchot back on screen, even if he's a bit underutilised.

I have just watched the first episode and it has reminded me of why I generally find American TV a bit irritating. Their culture just doesn't gel with me.

I'll keep watching in the hope that I can get into it.

To be clear though, the series is a satire of the Hollywood culture.

Just finished Season 1 of Astrid et Raphaëlle - the original French/Belgian from which "Patience" (currently on ThreeNow) is based on.  Highly recommend if you don't mind subtitles or speak French.  I've only watched the 1st episode of Patience so far but I think they will be different enough to hold interest.

Also finished a short while ago Season 1 of "H.P.I  Haut Potentiel Intellectuel" another french series later adapted for the US into "High Potential".  Also reocmmend this but have to say that both H.P.I and High Potential are definately worth watching, I don't personally think one is better than the other which is quite rare especially for American remakes.  The earlier stories follow broadly the same plot, but they diverge after that, and the side-plots and details are different.

The Bondsman - Prime Video

Kevin Bacon stars as a Bail Bondsman in a generic Southern town, when things go wrong.

Bacn's character finds himself on the wrong end of a murder and after a miraculous resurrection, he finds himself employed as a bounty hunter for the devil.

Much bloody mayhem ensues, while he tries to mend his relationship with his son and his ex-wife

So far - good, bloody, somewhat irreverant, but enjoyable. Definitely in the action/horror/supernatural genre (if there is such a thing).
Think Constantine but less "Catholic".

Watched it over the weekend, its not bad, but as you say its trying to be too many things all at once...

Its been green lit for a 2nd season, and we all know where it will end up going...

but I suspect they will also have to go into the back story of "Helen", because you eventually start to wonder "what's in it for her" to be working for the Black Doves given the position she now finds herself in....

Also they have to keep working very hard to make sure you don't start hoping that the leads will just chuck it all in and run off together...

We’ve been bingeing Last One Laughing - UK. Very very funny IMO with some outrageous stuff. Don’t be put off by the somewhat weak trailer on IMDB - it’s way better than that.

The concept is that 10 comedians are locked in a room for 6 hours - shown as six 40-minute episodes hosted by Jimmy Carr. The objective is to make the others laugh — without laughing yourself.

If anyone laughs, smiles, or even smirks, they’re penalized and eventually eliminated. The last comedian standing wins.

The jokes, skits and tricks that the contestants use to try and trip the others are funny in their own right - but the real hilarity is in watching them all in agony, desperately trying not to laugh.

Versions have been produced in over a dozen countries

Mobland on prime video. Really enjoyed the first episode and Tom Hardy was born to play a crime family fixer, The rest of the cast is great but im not sure what accent Pierce Brosnan has but he is also very good.

I, too, am really enjoying this series. Tom Hardy fits this role perfectly, especially with his demeanour, body language, and vocals. The story line is fantastic, with lots of twists and turns. Helen Mirren also deserves a mention as the evil, manipulative matriarch. Pierce Brosnan, as mentioned, has an Irish accent that comes across as more comical than that of a serious mob boss of Irish descent.

MobLand Synopsis: Power is up for grabs as two warring crime families clashes in a battle that threatens to topple empires. In the crossfire stands Harry Da Souza, Tom Hardy, a street-smart 'fixer' who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

"Adolescence" (Netflix). Not perfect, but pretty damn close.

"The Expanse" (Prime). See, Netflix? This is how you do sci-fi (I still haven't forgotten Netflix for the godawful season two and eventual cancellation of Altered Carbon).

Black Mirror on Netflix is good Sci-Fi -

Granted its an episodic show rather than a serial one... but its a great modern take on the Outer limits/Twilight Zone

the USS Callister Episode in Season 4 and its "into infinity" sequel this year are great...

Started watching High Potential on Disney+

Don't judge it by the still frame on the thumbnail.

We're two episodes in and it's very good (in my opinion).

I'll try my best not to say more, because everything could be a spoiler.
