Stranger things on Netflix. 9.2 on IMDB. Only came out last weekend but wow what a series, upto episode 5 and absolutely hooked. Very difficult to only watch one episode a night lol

Watched it and enjoyed it .. but not through Netflix ;)

The Programme that has taken GoT's slot on the SoHo channel on Sky 'Roadies" is awesome.

Lindsey Buckingham's cameo was worth subscription price alone.

rmt38:

Penny Dreadful final episode.  Another excellent final episode, tied up things nicely.  It was probably time for this one to end as well.

I've got to disagree with you on that one. Spoiler free rant below:

Penny dreadful was a fantastic show, but the last episode was terrible and left far too may things unfinished. It stunk of "oh crap, we've been cancelled and now have to wrap this up long before we are ready". The show-runner is now claiming that it was only ever meant to be 3 seasons, but I don't buy that THAT finale was the plan from day one.

Season 1 was great, season 2 was even better. Season 3 was good (until the finale), but the whole season felt like a setup to what should have come in season 4.

For me it was one of those bad finales that makes me not want to recommend people watch an otherwise great show because of how bad the ending was. I'd recommend watching seasons 1 and 2 and leaving it there (in my opinion leaving it at the end of season 2 would be a more satisfying ending that what they did at the end of season 3).

Ok, rant over.

I'm quite enjoying Preacher on Lightbox.

I've only read the first few of the comics, and while it is very different I think the show pretty damn good.

Amen to that, Preacher! A really weird amalgam of a programme, and while I'm not usually into programmes delving into the metaphysical there's something entertaining and charming (and at the same time gross) about Preacher. I did miss Cassidy in this week's episode, as he's a great character.

It's just somewhat frustrating at having to wait a WHOLE WEEK for the next episode to turn up on Lightbox; we're too used to being able to binge watch; a weekly delay between episodes seems so 2012...

The latest series of Orange is the New Black is excellent; best for a while if not the best of all four seasons.

Series two of Daredevil's good enough, but I'm not quite as into it as the first season, and still hanging out for the release of the new season of Jessica Jones.

New series of Ray Donovan... ummm, not convinced yet. Brought in some plot contrivances that reek of a show on the slow decline, but still worth watching.

For those with kids - this holiday our family's really been enjoying the latest series of How to Train Your Dragon on Netflix - my kids are obsessed, and it's nice to have a programme that's well written so that it's entertaining for both children and adults (there aren't many programmes that suit all our ages, from 5 to 40!).

I was borderline on Preacher, the dog incident was enough to push me to 'no longer watching' status. Also just struck off my list is Mr. Robot which feels like it is spinning its wheels.

I thought "the dog incident" was quite effective. I didn't see it coming, but in hind sight it made total sense.

Yeah but I have a thing for dogs and I was pretty borderline on the show already.

I was thinking: wtf is she doing with a dog? Then, of course that was answered...

We just finished X-Files Series 9.Started 10. Ouch. The acting is terrible, its like they read from a script. No passion. Ep3 embarrassing. Rhys Darby cool, he's a kiwi, but its a supernatural show not a comedy. Tonite we will do/suffer Ep4. After watching the preview with the actors, Chris Carter, what are they on?

I've really enjoyed Westside season 2.  They've ditched the one year per episode format from season 1, and this has made the show feel more contiguous and stable.  The character development has been really good, and they've taken more time to flesh out the supporting characters like Ngaire and Lefty Munro, Mike McCarthy, and the others in the "gang".  It's been fun to watch knowing what we know of the past from Outrageous Fortune, and seeing the writers trying to join up the tunnel in the middle.  It's also great to see them acknowledge the setting (1981) without being as "nudge nudge wink wink" as they were in the first season.  Lots of little cues like the music, the cars and clothes, and the background politics.  A great moment was when one Ted West demands to know why Des didn't tell him that the situation had changed and Des replies "How was I supposed to tell you?  It's not like you've got a phone in your pocket, have you?"

Also started watching season 3 of The Americans.  I've watched plenty of awkward or uncomfortable scenes in movies and TV shows, but all the awful rape or domestic violence scenes in the world didn't make me squirm as much as the home dental scene in episode 3, where one character has their teeth pulled out with a pair of pliers.  Really set my teeth on edge!
