gzt: The Expanse. Thanks to the many recommendations here. It's like Bladerunner + Firefly with anything else thrown in. Detectives, shootouts, spaceships, pandemics, spacebattles. Fills a gap waiting for the next Star Trek series.

The Expanse has a bit of a Battlestar Galactica (remake) feel to it as well - which is another show I would recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it. Studio interference caused some issues in the first half of Season 3 as they insisted on having more standalone episodes (but that was soon rectified), and the finale was quite polarising among fans. But overall highly recommended.

I don't have high hopes for Star Trek Discovery. I don't much like the actress they have for the main character (Sasha from The Walking Dead - but that could be down to her character in that show being awful). I also don't like the idea of a "main character" at all, Star Trek has always been an ensemble show.

Great books and I was reasonably pleased with the transition to screen with the exception of the actor playing James Holden who just doesn't quite do it right - he's too much like a stroppy teen.

I can only see Series 1 on Netflix - where can I see S2?

Netflix is actually quite poor in NZ - it seems to have quite a lot of programs where there are more series already screened but not available on Netflix.

Season 2 is still going, so likely won't show up on Netflix until around the time of the season 3 premiere in the US. I don't think there are any legitimate ways to get season 2 in NZ.

A bit late to the game, but I just finished watching Stranger Things.  I can see why everyone is talking about it, and why it's getting lots of praise.  One of the better original shows I've seen in a long while.  The acting was great, I really enjoyed the setting, and the story moved along at a good clip.  I really prefer the short-format of many of these new shows, and makes the traditional 22-episode formats look lumbering and ungainly.  Also have to make mention of the theme tune.  With so many shows in recent years opting for no or minimal theme tunes, it's refreshing to see the value being placed on this.  I like the simplistic, but atmospheric approach - the music is perfectly in keeping with the 80s setting, and the logo gives me chills every time it comes up on screen.  It put me in mind of the opening to The Tripods from the 80s...

It is? I must look!

Since getting Netflix I've barely turned on the Sky box to be honest.

Unless Netflix add some new content soon I might be doing so though.

Last night watched episode one of Travelers, acted decently enough to keep me interested to continue watching it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5651844/

So glad I started this, finished season 1 last night and I'm very glad it has been renewed for s2. Where Timeless was just cheesy fun, this was a much higher level of writing and acting..I loved how the focused on inadvertent struggles of the result of traveling into existing bodies. Also liked some of the very subtle funny bits in the second half of the season. created by same guy who did stargate so a couple of stargate actors turn up in it. highly recommended.

Watching it myself at the moment. Up to episode 6. Not bad at all and worth the watch!

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Watching The Last Kingdom on Netflix.

Better than Vikings. Much more realistically violent and in fact overall more realistic. People actually look dirty rather than clean and shiny despite mud for roads and raw sewage in the streets as they usually do in such programs!

Amusing to imagine cities like Winchester as nothing more than a small collection of rude huts and left over Roman villas which of course they would have been in AD866. Also, got to love Rutger Hauer in anything.

sorry not quite on topic but if you havent seen Flesh and Blood , you need to . it's a film and all you need to know is that it failed because it was to realistic on what happened in the 1500's. Rutger Hauer stars.

Annoyingly while it's showing episode maybe nine, the on-demand catch up only lists 6 episodes so early episodes have gone. I missed episode one and two as they had expired so was forced to google s02e01 etc and found them then used on-demand sky to download all the episodes I'd missed.

Watching catch up on demand is better than live as no adds or sky promo overlays.

I came across a post commenting that viewing numbers in USA weren't great and poster feared it would fave early death like Firefly did and advocating people who like the series to buy season one on Blu-ray to show $$interest in the series.

I agree so bought from Amazon UK..

I really am enjoying the production value of the series.

Been catching up on Legion.  Captivating, breathtaking.  It has so many Watchmen-esque things about it it terms of style/shots/characters but totally has that Fargo feel about it (probably the 70's feel from Fargo S2).  And Jemaine Clements character is really intriguing.

Surprised that it hasnt rated as well as it could have but mutants arent everyones cup of tea.

I am on tenterhooks waiting for the season finale tonight - so many twists and turns so far that I just cant wait to see how it twists in the end.

Penny Dreadful.
Brilliant writing, a concept that should have been cheesy and contrived (a mashup of Victorian horror monsters) knitted together into an engaging fantasy universe.
