dclegg:

Rikkitic:

No distinction here between mini-series and serial but if this thread includes both, I just finished the last season of The Bridge, which is a stunning Swedish/Danish crime production. I will miss Saga.

Now watching Midnight Sun, also very promising French/Nordic mini-series.

Saga is one of my favourite characters of recent times.

You may also enjoy Rita, if you haven't watched it already. It's a Danish comedy/drama with a flawed, but well meaning, teacher as its protagonist.

Thanks for the tip. Haven't seen it but will look out for it.

@Rikkitic . If you liked the bridge try the killing. The original Danish version is excellent. The Americans did a remake which is on Netflix. Never watched that but it might also be good?

Also I enjoyed the tunnel. An English/French remake of the bridge. Not sure how exactly it follows the bridge so maybe it's different enough to be interesting?

‘Babylon Berlin’ on Netflix. A NF original set in 1920’s Berlin. Have watched two episodes and it looks to be excellent IMO.

iPlayer has Seasons 1-3 of The Bridge at the moment. Possibly as a prelude to season 4 ?

Edit - 30 episodes available for 2 months

I have heard about the killing but haven't seen it. I will look out for it. I try to avoid American remakes of European productions. I have never seen one that didn't make me want to vomit.

I quite liked the American version, but then I never saw the original. The first series is really long though. I started of quite liking the more fleshed out stories of the characters and some of the politics but they did overdo it a bit.

I find that Americans usually destroy the subtlety and intelligence of good European productions and seeing something done badly that I previously saw done well puts me off, so I try to avoid it. Of course there are exceptions but every single American remake I have ever bothered to see has offended me.

The last season of Grimm is now available on Amazon Prime so I finished watching it.

Watching Bosch Season 3 (out of four seasons) and it is still great. Also watched the latest Mozart in the Jungle but it's losing its appeal fast. Fleabag was pretty funny.

All those on Amazon Prime.

The Expanse S2 E2. Shooting, space battles, unexpected twists. Normal service has resumed.

Babylon Berlin: S1 E2: It's all action now. Shooting, police, cabaret. The cabaret music feels a bit wrong for the period and the street sets are a bit flimsy looking. Enjoyed it.

SBS Are just starting the last season of The Bridge. It should be on their on demand site.
Agree with the comments above about how good it is/was.
The Saga character is played exceptionally well. You can get very good glimpses as to how she sees the world and the difficulties she has. The actress who plays her (Sofia Helin) has said it messes with her head for a while while she was playing Saga.

I liked the ending - pleased with how they finished it.

Just finished season 1 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with my daughter and she's, thankfully, loving it so will start season 2 this weekend. Still an awesome show after all these years.

‘Episodes’ on Netflix - a sort of trans-Atlantic sitcom set in TV Hollywood. Slightly inconsistent at times but a pretty good watch overall.

Try watching the American series 'The Night Of' if you can. It really was exceptional in my opinion.

It was a remake of another excellent UK series called Criminal Justice about a person wrongly accused of murder.

As you say though most remakes are terrible. The Office is one that really stands out for me.

I watched The Returned in French with subtitles on Netflix. Loved it. Top 5 TV shows last year for me. Then tried American version and gave up after first episode. Pacing was all wrong.
