Whats in the herald must be true right?

I would say its both, increase in reports and increase in it happening more

Has the Bill actually done anything to prevent it though? Or was it just another useless law we have to live by?

I'm going to noob myself past judgement

My professional experience is that the promotion of positive parenting as opposed to negative parenting(smacking) is having a positive affect. It will take some time to eliminate outmoded attitudes that violence is acceptable towards children. There will alway be those who will use violence and that is what the law is there to deal with, the positive is parents are becoming positive and thinking in order to bring up their children successfully. The anti smacking legislation is a positive, violence will always be a negative.

Geektastic:
... (bearing in mind that TV advertising time costs several orders of magnitude more in the UK than it does here - no 'Lighting Plus' home made TV ads there! ....

Lighting Plus and that furniture woman are the high art of advertising compared to that imbecile with his vitamins. :-(

Forget banning smoking and alcohol ... at least one New Zealand school is banning lunch wrap! (Just when you thought they couldn't get any sillier!!) :-\

robjg63: If an incoming government (it is election year) had any smarts they would just make law number one to ban cigarettes. After about 12 months everyone (including the now given up smokers) would be saying - 'isnt NZ clever - look we have done'.

No one else can legally make/sell a product, that when used as intended has such a range of health risks.

Then it would move underground  just like drugs at present and booze in the 1920s.
