I can't seem to find it.
Engine number is F23A5 and the car looks to be manufactured in NZ (not sure how come as they closed the Nelson factory in '98 but anyway).

I looked in the following places:
- under the dash (driver and passenger)
- behind the ashtray
- in the strange place as seen on this car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R7SWrqQ0_E
- in both fuse boxes (driver and passenger doors)
- in the fuse box under the bonnet

I found two blue connectors as seen in this photo http://alflash.com.ua/Honda/SC.jpg under the driver's dash (above the accelerator pedal) - could this mean it doesn't have an OBD-2 port and just that honda blue service connector? Transmission is manual but I don't think it matters.

if you pull the plugs from the ECU which one does it look like?



It may not be obd2, there were a few oddball models out there, specially NZ new stuff

I'll have to find the ECU, any idea where it's usually located?

Yes, the blue connectors may indicate the lack of OBD2 but I do recall it was mandatory by law since 1996 or so.

it may have been for Japanese cars but there were some NZ made cars (hondas) that didn't follow this ive seen odd ecus in 96+ cars

the ecu is in the lhs of the passengers foot well

tcpdump:

Looking at your pic and then this, I'd say there's no OBD2 on your car... which is weird...

Only other place it would be is behind the passenger or drivers kick panel, since you've ruled out the ashtray..

I'll have a look tomorrow behind the kick panels (assuming I can remove them easily).
Why in the world would they hide it (assuming there is an obd2 port)? Normally it's in easy reach, underneath the dash.

My 2000 Audi has the OBD2 port and it's NZ New so it may be manufacturer related.

Thing is, why make sooo many diag ports for different markets? Especially 5 years later!

No idea. IIRC the OBD being mandatory on USDM cars somehow related to California emission requirements. It's not uncommon on 2000ish, but in the 90's it was pretty much each to their own with JDM/NZDM stuff, dono what the euros were doing, probably something expensive and overly complex.....
