langers1972: If anyone spots a Chromebook in the clearance section and doesn't mind buying it on my behalf I'd be eternally grateful as I want one for my daughter as her school is using them as their BYOD of choice.

Will happily pay courier fees and cover any other expenses if I can grab one for circa $200

You can grab them off Amazon for around $250 shipped to NZ (via YouShop). There is a Haier Chromebook that has actually got very good ratings for ~$200NZD + around $30 YouShop shipping fees if DSE doesn't have one. Else, the cheapest (non-firesale) one I can find in NZ is around $360. I have been looking in the DSE stores here in Wellington for them and have not found a single one for sale yet.

JimmyH: Stuck my nose into Manners Street today because I was walking past and need a couple of AV cables for a planned reconfiguration of my setup over Christmas.

They had a whole bunch of cables marked down to $2-$6 (HDMI, RCA, SCART, 3.5mm stereo to RCA etc). The markdowns seem totally random, many are sitting at full price while others are marked down to a small fraction of that - eg 1.5 meter HDMI (which I didn't need) for $2

Sadly not the ones I wanted which were proudly sitting there at full price ($24.95). Given that I want four, and Jaycar has the same thing in somewhat better quality for $6.95, I passed.

Like me the other week, took at green ipad mini 2 smart cover up to the counter (after see the price tag of $10) lady there is like "that will be $99.95" I said the tag said $10 dollars, she said I was wrong, went back and picked up a blue one which scanned for $5 (same product different colour).

I haven't read much of thread although someone mentioned looks like move to online... my current situation is as follows:

  • Saturday week ago I ordered some cables etc online and selected click and collect from local store
  • Got email straight away confirming purchase and that I would be contacted via txt/email when ready to pickup
  • Mid week I used the online contact us form to ask for update on the order.... still no reply from that
  • Rung the local store this morning and asked where order was at as website said Awaiting Fulfillment, the guy didn't even need to look it up and just said it will be because we don't have stock in store so you will get refund within few days
  • I checked credit card and yes money has been put back on account
  • Still no update from Dicksmith online about my order
Why the business seems to be going downhill..... it's a mystery ;)

Dick Smith's automated online communication has never been good. Twice I received emails saying my order had be dispatched 2-3 days after I got the packages. A few days later I got messages saying they had be delivered.

oh really...its just an app I use called lightshot that has a screenshot and an autoupload feature. I guess adblocker stops me from seeing any ads.

I put it on imgur for you

Went to Manners Street this morning and picked up "click and collect" that I ordered late yesterday.
Couldn't fault the service.

Much better than the experience I had with PB Tech's VIP sale last Thursday night.

It is interesting, because I have experienced some of the better service from DSE instore, but also some of the worst cusomter service I have ever expeievnced via their online store, in the last month.

I've had several shockers from noel leeming and harvey norman online recently. Harvey went to the top of the shytelist but were quickly replaced with noel leeming over another order being stuffed around. Its just endemic with retailers in NZ that treat their online as a side business instead of the main focus.

To be fair...
On-line is only a footnote in these businesses.
Sure, the amount of on-line retailing they're doing is increasing, but it's not enough for them to close their doors and go on-line only. Heck, all the big on-line retailers are opening bricks and mortar stores now / trying to.
Neither area is easy to do well in, as all of them seem to be discovering.

I went into Noel Leeming today and they told me that dicksmith no longer counts as a competitor for price match because of their situation. Are they pulling one over me or is this true?

Sounds legit to me.

Why should they compete with a moribund company?
