Public percepton among people I have talked about it with (Including some really old ones) is how the hell has it taken this long to happen.

The brand is shot. I feel sorry for the old guy for not doing something to be able to recover his name and likeness if something like this happened.

Recover his name? Dick Smith Foods is running perfectly fine. And, he's running for Parliament.

I wouldn't want my name on something that bad.

Reddit users ridicule DSE cash back promise. It seems that the fine print refers to consumer guarantee rights.
This was to do with a 4 million laptop clear out.

Yeah, from what I read, it is pretty much the CGA which is what they are required to do anyway. It maybe a little bit better in terms of getting problems resolved quicker.

Now it's been announced that DSE will be closing the 27 outlets in the David Jones Department stores.

Interestingly they provided this information about the employees about to lose their jobs:

'The closures will affect 181 employees, including two full-time employees, 78 part-time employees and 101 casual employees.'

With this staffing model how could they possibly claim to be the TechXperts?     Oh well, I think most NZ and Australian customers can recognise

when a business is no longer authentic, and it is a long long time since Dick Smith seemed authentic to me.

Liquidation sale still on. Picked up two laptops cheaper than i could wholesale. mind you i suspect they have 5400 RPM disks in them instead of 7200 but that's easily fixed.

Still offering "warranties" (e.g. insurance) and are under new management which is hoping to improve their fortunes.

My 2c - i used to visit DSE as a youngster (and that was a few years back now) because of electronics kits, hobby parts and lots of interesting tech stuff. Now i go to Jaycars in town. DSE is anothe Noel leemings, Harvey Norman, bond and Bond / Warehouse electronics clone.   No point of difference now - low margin, high turn over model = high risk business.

Eh, he's running running up against Bronwyn Bishop. At least Dick Smith uses his own helicopter.

And he's running on a campaign of reducing red tape for non-airline aircraft enthusiasts. He just wants to make it easier for common folk to take their private planes and helicopters up in the air. How can you call him out of touch with average people?!?

20-40% off 'selected Kettles and SD cards'.    Wow, that will really get people surging through the doors.   Think that special goes to through until 9 Feb.

Selected kettles?

They show 12 in total on their website (2 lines have a colour variant option to boost those numbers) but they have only dropped the price on 2 of them. I hope they have enough staff on to cover the rush...

Poor DSE. They can't even go out of business properly...

Preorders! Sounds like a great idea from a company that is about to disappear and has already screwed people over on paid preorders!

Oh wait, nothing there to preorder after all.
