I went into one here in Melbourne yesterday. They wanted $54 for a DSE branded Lightning cable + 2 port x 2.4amp car charger. $54! For store brand!

I didn't see a single bargain in the store, despite it being 20-40% off most things (they had left)

As the receivers are paying for the services of liquidation experts we can expect them to extract the best prices possible over a eight week period.   They probably have the process well and truly sorted from doing dozens of retail liquidations.    Any really good bargains could be weeks away.

Finally some common sense!

exactly. normal people will go in, see a price and default its a fire sale bargain. Maximising returns

As far as what will happen to the sites once Dick Smithis closed, the Lower Hutt (Queensgate mall) store has an odd donut shape, on the top floor.. hard to see it being divided into smaller stores, but it could be a good spot for something like Spotlight or Lincraft - a big sewing/haberdashery/craft chain.

Manners Street store could become a clothing store or some form of restaurant - perhaps a chain like Wendys or Carls Jr may swoop?

The other one I've been to in the past few months was in Coastlands mall on the Kapiti Coast. Hard to think of what could go there.. maybe JB Hifi?

Clearly there was creative accounting going on. But they weren't Jaycar or the old Trinity House, and they weren't NL or Harvey Normal. No mans land. It didn't work out

We've still go the big clearance to occur, as I doubt the liquidators will want anything remaining, and I believe they also want to get rid of shop fittings in this clearance, so doubt they will want to have to deal with getting rid of old stock after this date. So this page is very relevant for listing deals people may find.

Perhaps we should open a Dick Smith discounts thread in the Bargains and Deals instead?

I agree, MF. The rights and wrongs of DSE have been done to death, criticisms and so on. Its done. An era has ended. I can recall considering a Dick Smith Wizard back in the day. I went with a C64 at only $995 on special and a $295 tape drive!

The fire sale prices aint cheap but some will pay as its a fire sale, it must be cheap. Then the real sale prices will happen.

I wouldn't know my *rse from my elbow when it comes to running a business, but the way DS is limping along at the moment to its inevitable death must surely be costing a fair bit.

Wouldn't they be better off just closing all their doors now  and be done it with it?

They're losing around $3-$4 million per week according to the receivers.

wouldn't been better to have a fire sale in 10-14 days than losing 24m in 8 weeks

There's relevance in keeping this thread going - in particular an investigation within Aussie to the business dealings that occurred.

I agree though, pricing talk should be done elsewhere.
